@RickSkilbeck @AArmstrong_says @LaraInCornwall @RachelReevesMP It's interesting that para 4.30 which refers to extending SSBR to those losing RHL relief doesn't mention the TR cap, but I suppose it's a logical extension of the explanation in 4.29. Will have to await the full details. In the meantime confusion reigns supreme.

@JerrySchurder @AArmstrong_says @LaraInCornwall @RachelReevesMP Capped at £800 or the relevant transitional relief cap, whichever is greater. So unfortunately in most cases, increases are going to be greater than £800. "references to “BL x AF” should in 26 SSBR be taken to be references to “(BL x AF) or (BL + 800) whichever is the greater”

@RichSeal_ @dustonlandlady Cannot comment on whether the 2026 assessment is fair or not. Pub rates are based on trading performance. But if the pub is presently getting the 40% RHL discount then its bill won’t increase by more than £800 pa for the next 3 years under the SSBR scheme.

Business rates just jumped from £22k to £86k at The Squirrels. That’s a 291% increase — in one hit. This is how pubs and small businesses fold. Quiet updates, massive impact. #NoDayWasted®

@AArmstrong_says @LaraInCornwall @RachelReevesMP There is also the Supporting Small Business Relief which applies to those who are receiving the 40% RHL discount this year. Their bill increases will be capped at a maximum of £800 for each of the 3 years until the next revaluation.

@LaraInCornwall @RachelReevesMP Hi - I’ve been looking into this. It’s shocking the multiplier has been set so the discount isn’t really a discount at all. But the govt has introduced a new transitional relief to cushion blow from the jump. Only 3yrs though. Tell me if it doesn’t apply - keen for full picture

@JR_Roles92 Businesses already find the system opaque and complex. It’s only getting worse I fear.

I struggle to see how today's announcements regarding #businessrates fulfil the manifesto commitment to 'replace the business rates system'. And only time will tell if they fulfil the promise to 'level the playing field between the high street and online giants'. #autumnbudget

@Dan_W_91 Yes. The 5 new multipliers have been published. Taken together with the transitional relief scheme and an expanded Supporting Small Business Relief, there will be some complex and confusing calculations required.

@JerrySchurder Have the government given any indication of what these new "lower" rates will be? A bold claim to suggest lowest rates since 1992 - given it was a 75% discount recently!

Supermarkets not excluded from the rates supplement to be paid by large firms despite strong industry lobbying. No business should have to pay more given that #businessrates are already the highest comparable property tax worldwide #autumnbudget

@emmaljones Not quite as the 750k includes all small businesses, not just those in RHL. My guess (no more than that) is that about half the 750 are RHL, which means another half will benefit from the new discounts - assume details of these will be in Red Book

No details on #businessrates changes from the dispatch box. Guess if they were going to be warmly welcomed by business we would have heard more by now. #autumnbudget

OBR forecasting #businessrates growth from £33.6bn this year to £42bn in 2030 dampens hope for all businesses, including retail hospitality and leisure who were promised permanent relief. No doubt they'll receive a discount but will it suffice?

Given that #businessrates are already the highest comparable property tax worldwide, large firms wait with baited breath to learn of the surcharge to be applied to those with rateable value assessments of £500,000 or above. And will large shops be excluded? #autumnbudget

Never before have firms faced such worry over #businessrates on Budget day. Will the likely cut in the tax rate (UBR) be adequate given rising rates assessments and will the discount for retail hospitality and leisure be more or less than the current 40% relief? #autumnbudget

Under Labour, many have seen their business rates double. A future @Conservatives government will abolish business rates for shops and pubs on our high streets. End of.

Unacceptable that ratepayers will have to wait so long for a clue as to how their #businessrates bills will change next April. Government has all the data it needs to be able to provide details now. How can biz plan if it has no idea by how much bills will increase or fall?

Zilch, zip, nada on business rates in industrial strategy. Despite being the biggest burden for some big businesses and govt promising reform in its manifesto. Retailers etc also won’t be helped by the industrial-focused energy measures.
