Check out what a stent looks like before it is placed in an artery! (Far right is the final product) Most stents that are used are about 20mm but can range anywhere from 8-48mm, and are 2-5mm in diameter. @YHSMrsMero
At @NWHospital I started my Cath-lab rotation! I was able to shadow 2 LHC procedures with Dr. Reimers. The procedure is to look at the heart and arteries + treat/ diagnose any heart problems involving a catheter that is passed into the left side of the heart. @YHSMrsMero
At @NWHospital I was in the OR! I had the opportunity to shadow a colonoscopy and learned how anesthesia works. When the anesthetic is injected, it causes a reduction in nerve transmission at the synapses which makes makes nerves slow the firing rate. @YHSMrsMero#Medicine
Today at my internship I had the opportunity to observe one of Northern Westchester’s therapy dog’s on its daily trek around the hospital! @YHSMrsMero#medicine#YHSWISE2023
The VibraPEP is the most therapeutic PEP device used in Respiratory Therapy! It creates the pressure and vibrations necessary to loosen mucus and strengthen your lung capacity. You can even adjust the intensity for blowing into the mouth piece! @YHSMrsMero#medicine
An Airlife is one of the portable devices a Respiratory Therapist can use to assess someone’s pulmonary function, especially people with asthma. Here was my score when I tried it! #WISE#WISE2022#medicine@YHSMrsMero
Over spring break i wasn’t able to go to my internship. However, I was able to put more thought into my final project and the wise symposium, which is next month! I am so excited to show everyone what I’ve been learning since I was released! @YHSMrsMero#WISE
Today at my internship I started the respiratory therapy and cath-lab rotation! I was able to watch an extubation which is the final step in releasing a patient from a ventilator (removing an endotracheal tube (ETT)) @YHSMrsMero#Medicine#YHSWISE2023

As you can see, when using the black light, it is very easy to see the “germs”. Be sure to wash your hands thoroughly to prevent the spread of germs! @YHSMrsMero#medicine
Today I was at Brookside Elementary teaching the importance of washing your hands! We used a black light and lotion to show the fake germs on everyones hands. After washing their hands, the kids took a look again to see if they washed their hands properly. The students did great!
Join us May 21st for the Northwell Health Walk at Westchester! Come help raise funds for sensory carts for children with behavioral, emotional, physical and learning challenges and financial assistance to team members in need at Northern Westchester Hospital. @YHSMrsMero#WISE
Today marks the last day of my radiology rotation, and I just wanted to thank everyone at Yorktown Imaging for this amazing experience! Next rotation is external affairs starting Tuesday!
Today I was shown how ultrasounds work + witnessed a couple breast ultrasounds! The ultrasound gel is used as a coupling medium (conduct the ultrasound frequency) in all ultrasound procedures to replace air between the transducer and the patient's skin, making the picture clear.
