@autcareandshare This really resonates as our autistic daughter doesn’t ‘look’ different, and she’s 15, gets chastised for wearing headphones in a resto for example (which she uses for sensory issues)… people need to never judge & be way more patient & understanding.,

We parked up in town,a lady comes over and says, "You do know your parked in a disabled bay for disabled people, don't you ?" Yes I replied as I put up the blue badge . She carried on staring as I helped Ryan put his coat on , then just walked off, huffing .I've said it before, and I'll say it again the wheelchair symbol doesn't help those with hidden disabilities.

@autcareandshare 2/2 our daughter. Everyday we’re on pins & needles, or @ the hospital. To date, we pay out of pocket for any support she needs, in addition to the financial it takes it also takes a toll on all relationships, dictates social outings, mild errands, vacations.

Your going to feel isolated and burnt out as a carer, heck your going to go several stages past burnout, you're going to find yourself crippled with anxiety, your fear the postman and the telephone ringing is it a new form to fill out? is there another assessment? , has something happened at your child's day centre or school? you stop going to family events because getting an autistic child ready for a party or a wedding is bloody hard work then you only stay for 20 minutes because the new sights sounds or smells have overwhelmed your child, the support you are given is minimal and you had to fight for that, you're going to be looked down upon called lazy or a benefit scrounger, you're going to feel like you have been forgotten, it won't get better ....but you're going to get better at managing and coping and fighting and filling out forms andIi see you shouting and screaming at the screen that it shouldn't be like this, and no it shouldn't. We are carers the unpaid the unseen, and after all that, I'm proud to be a carer for my son, just not proud about how we are treated.

Ryan's not nonverbal, but he's very selective on who he speaks to and when he's been known to eat things he doesn't like at his daycentre rather than say, a member of staff said to Ryan that he's taking Ryan shopping to buy ingredients to make a quiche today, Ryan replied...I don't like eggs , he's not done this before!

We have a motability vehicle for Ryan, we live in a council property and applied for a podpoint to charge the vehicle. The council said no, it's their property but not there land the building covenants strictly forbid it, I like research my autistic brain loves it,so I researched what I'd been told I wanted to be sure I was being given the correct Information then I researched the land and the property developer,I spent weeks trying to get the correct department at the property developers, one day at twenty to 1 in the morning(I'd been pretty persistent)the director of Taylor wimpey who was the land developer rings me and asks me what I need, I tell him and he agrees to give me full permission which he does, I then gave that to my local council who swore that there was absolutely no way it could be done, they reluctantly agreed to the podpoint, I don't give up easily.
