Paul Sewald entered tonight averaging 10.5" of horizontal movement on his sweeper. His last three sweepers to Hunter Goodman had 17", 16" and 17", respectively, of horizontal movement — and all with above-average velo. No coincidence that all three generated whiffs.

The D-backs' bullpen needed 77 pitches for three innings of work tonight. Nonetheless, that group has been excellent lately. Larger storyline is the offense only scratching across two runs against the Rockies for a second straight game. Tough loss.

I loved Dave McKay, locked in, pointing at first base and reminding Ketel to make sure he touched first base. Routine. But never get so caught up in the moment you forget the little things.

And one inning later, Ketel Marte hits another deep fly ball at 391 feet — and it’s a two-out, three-run, walk-off homer, with a sensational bat flip to match. What a swing for Ketel. And what a win for the Diamondbacks, who are now above .500 for the first time since May 1.

Ketel Marte’s deep fly out in the eighth went 411 feet and would have been a game-tying home run in 24 of 30 ballparks. Not Chase Field. Been that kind of year for Ketel.
