In retrospect, the most forward leap in afro futurism was the Jonzun Crew. Bambaata set it. But Jonzun crew took it to space and into dimensions we stull haven't reached.

The great @schott_free wrote this on the passing of Raymond Webb "X-RAY" Davis. Sharing for the fans & friends. “As an artist from Staten Island, my first recordings were produced by G.M. Webb D up in Long Beach, Long Island, back in 1989. First as a solo emcee, then as a part of a new group he later established , called D.U.M.E, which later morphed into a unit called Darc Mind. I’d take a bus, the ferry, a train, then the LIRR to get to sessions. Previously having produced for Sugar Bear (Ready To Penetrate) and a group called Seriously Fine, Getting Money Webb D aka X-Ray The Mindbenda, aka King Cesar of the Monsta Island Czars, is the foundation of my recording process, and mentored many, including Kausing Much Damage, (KMD) who all lived within blocks of his crib in Long Beach. He taught a young Zev Love X (later known as MF Doom) how to program beats, as Doom would record at Webb’s crib way before he had equipment or his deal at Elektra. I stepped away from Darc Mind to further pursue a career in A&R at LOUD records while Darc Mind, originally a quartet, continued as a two man group, with Webb on production & MC Kev Roc (The Eloquent Orator) handling mic duty. The rest is hip hop aura… My deepest condolences go out to the entire Davis family. Webb, your Darc Mind will shine 4Ever as the music will always be there for the people. S.I.P. my brother."

@WALASIA All facts. He also had a deeper role in the creation of Doomsday than is reflected in credits, from what he told me. RIP, brother WEB.

Besides being a studio home where he mentored a very young DJ Subroc and Zev Love X, X-Ray told me that the also provided space, equipment and training/mentorship to a young Roc Marciano in his Long Island studio as well. While X-Ray himself may not have become as renown as a producer as he should have - he definitely left a footprint in the history of much of the Hip Hop we listen to today. May he Rest in Peace. ~ Walasia

I did not know X-RAY as well as some of the other members of what at one point was a large, uncontrollable group of artists who recorded as "Monsta Island Czars". However, after DOOM went back to the essence, I got to know X-RAY further in a series of long phone calls. We had a meeting with a film & television entity to discuss a documentary on the early days of KMD.

I just want to say that our media has completely failed us on properly covering Trump's cognitive decline, and the danger he poses to our country. It's been another nonstop reel of bothsidism. Glad CNN got called out last night, but you all should truly be ashamed.

I recently made the return to print journalism as the editor of the two latest issues of my favorite magazine @WaxPoetics. Here's the issue covers with Yellow Magic Orchestra + DJ Koco a.k.a. Shimokita, respectively, and a well-deserved back cover appearance from @Bahamadia.

@SheckyGreen Freestyle has never not been one of the biggest music genres in Long Island pretty much my entire life. The KTU freestyle show at Jones Beach Amphitheater sells out every year.

Mister Cee contributed to Dancehall culture in a massive way when HOT 97 had the power to break records, he was a real champion of the music up there and helped break a lot of Dancehall records with his influence. He was pivotal at one point - the first DJ to be given the Jay Z/Mavado remix by HOV and helped us get a lot of records in rotation. He was also one of the baddest DJs in a club I ever witnessed, he controlled crowds and frenzied the vibe with his incredible timing and mixing. And ofc there was Biggie. A huge contributor to our world of music and for that I had to pen a tribute.

Thinking about the influence Cee had on all the people who gave Brooklyn its sound from hip-hop to dancehall, the generational reach took my memory from Biggie to Ricky Blaze.

To be an underaged kid, whose Mom passed in the prime of my teenage years + no dad around, I found a home in NYC nightclubs. Speeed was where I could be found on any number of Sunday nights and Cee was the resident, the headliner, the Finisher that packed the club to the gills 🙏🏾

Damn, just got the word. I was blessed to work with @djmistercee Sundays at Club Speeed. Epic nights that were important in my young DJ career, alongside @djmace_ and @MaxGlazer. I learned a lot from watching how he rocked. Definitely influenced my style. Rest easy, Cee. 🙏🏾

Just learned that this '70s sitcom catchphrase is what Greg N-I-C-E (@darealGregNice) is referencing in his adlib at the start of "DWYCK" youtube.com/watch?v=vUaBXL… I always thought it was a (rather inexplicable) reference to former NY @Giants head coach Ray Handley.
