For those saying that the Afghan people are merely going back to what they are used to, remember that the median age in Afghanistan is 18 -- and the Taliban fell 20 years ago.

The last decade of messaging on Afghanistan set up unrealistic expectations. The last ten years have not been “nation building” nor has it been a “forever war” (we’ve neither built a nation nor won a war). Like we currently do in SK, we kept a deterring presence in Afghanistan.
