Frontline social service workers deserve a fair deal. They care for some of Ontario’s most vulnerable residents every day – and they’re calling for: ✅ Fair wages ✅ Safe working conditions ✅ Stable funding for the services they make possible That’s why last Friday, I wrote to the Ministry of Children, Community, and Social Services and Ontario’s Treasury Board. I asked them to step up with funding for a fair settlement for workers. It is on this government to do the right thing and support our social services: they’re worth fighting for. Millions of people who rely on care and support across the province are counting on them. I look forward to the government’s response.

Stan Cho's resignation doesn't explain a single hotel bill. He was living the suite life on your dime, got caught, and is now dodging accountability. The refund is still owed. So are the answers. And Former Minister Cho wasn't alone: Hardeep Grewal billed nearly $30,000, and Nina Tangri and Charmaine Williams billed tens of thousands more. Do they still have the Premier's confidence?
Colin D'Mello | Global News@ColinDMello

BREAKING: Stan Cho has resigned from Premier Doug Ford's cabinet in the wake of the $16,000 hotel expenses scandal first revealed by Global News. Ford statement: “Earlier today, I accepted the resignation of Stan Cho from Cabinet, effective immediately. He has acknowledged and taken responsibility for his mistake. He will continue to serve the people of Willowdale as their Member of Provincial Parliament." #onpoli

NEW: In the summer of 2024, as PC MPPs began charging taxpayers for Toronto hotel stays, members of the Ford gov’t pushed to update expense rules for elected officials. Specifically: to expand the “special circumstances” category to go beyond extreme weather events and include night sittings at Queen’s Park. The very rules they’re now looking to eliminate. globalnews.ca/news/11969054/… #onpoli

This sky is not normal. While the Conservatives splash the cash on hotel rooms, they’ve also: ❌ Cut emergency funding to fight forest fires by $42 million last year – that’s minus 67% ❌ Abandoned any commitments to ‘make a plan on climate change’ ❌ Refused to publish data on emissions reductions ❌ Declined to set any climate targets after 2030 As wildfires rage in Northern Ontario, people are losing their homes and their lives, and our province finds itself with a sky that looks like science fiction. Except this sky is science fact. The cost of climate change for everyone to see.

Now it’s emerging that the expenses rule – the one that allowed Toronto-area Conservative MPPs to claim for downtown Toronto hotel rooms – is also being quickly thrown out of the (hotel) window. Once again, Ford and his government get caught breaking the rules. And then change the rules so they no longer apply to them.

Conservatives like to tell us they're good with money. Instead, it looks like Doug Ford and his PC MPPs have thrown fiscal responsibility out of the (hotel) window.

Doug Ford is a jobs disaster. It gets clearer with every passing month that the Conservatives have no plan to keep and create good jobs in our province. ❌Almost 17,000 jobs lost in June. The situation is growing increasingly bleak for Ontario’s young people, with our youth labour force continuing to shrink. People are giving up on the hope they deserve for secure, fairly paid employment. With cost of living at an all-time high, we can’t keep going like this. Ontario’s workers need more than a part-time Premier. Doug Ford needs to throw out his five-month vacation plans and start working to create and protect good jobs in Ontario.

You can get from Willowdale to Queen's Park without changing subway trains. Minister Cho lives 6 km away and has a taxpayer-funded car and driver. He still billed you $16,000 for downtown hotels. Under Doug Ford, it's one long party with the taxpayers' dime.

NEW: A senior cabinet minister in the Ford gov’t billed taxpayers thousands of dollars for hotel rooms in downtown Toronto, despite living just a few kilometres away from Queen’s Park — public money that he’s now promising to partly pay back. globalnews.ca/news/11964297/… #onpoli

I’m devastated and furious at the senseless acts of gun violence that took place in Toronto last night. Salsa on St Clair is a beloved community event, one that my family and I have enjoyed for many years. I know residents and festival attendees are scared and still processing this reckless act at a crowded festival that brings thousands of people together. My thoughts are with the families and victims, the first responders, the festival organizers and the community who worked tirelessly to organize this event. We need to get illegal guns out of our streets and neighbourhoods. Nobody should have to worry that their loved ones will fall victim to reckless violence on our streets. Thank you to the first responders- paramedics, firefighters, and Toronto Police - for your courage and service. Our city is incredibly grateful. As the Leader of the Official Opposition, I’ve extended my support to local representatives, and I’ll be speaking with the Mayor and the Deputy Chief today.

No charges. No public updates. No end in sight. The RCMP's Greenbelt investigation has reached the 1,000-day mark, and remains "ongoing." Opposition is accusing the Ford government of "learning nothing" & continuing "backroom deals" as probe drags on. thetrillium.ca/insider-news/h…

1,000 days. Today, that’s how long the RCMP's Doug Ford-Greenbelt criminal investigation has gone on for. We know: ❌ Ford tried to axe 7,400 Greenbelt acres ❌ The Conservatives tried to give their developer buddies a route to get rich quick ⁉️ Almost nothing about the investigation This July 13, we're writing postcards to the RCMP to find out what’s going on. The public deserves to know. Join us: unirosendp.ca/1000days

Great to stop by @fiestafarms to present their @FoodlandOnt Silver Award: this is what Buy Ontario can look like. 🍎 Their staff are putting Ontario produce front and centre here in Seaton Village - with Fiesta's Red Prince apples grown in Winter, stored in Spring, and enjoyed in Summer. One of only two Toronto grocery stores to receive this award, Fiesta is also the only independent grocer to be recognized in our city.
