The only way to change this perverse dynamic is by working with private capital to structure these projects. Incentives have to be aligned so that bids are attractive to the right investors. Unfortunately that is not the purview of IFIs. It's the work of private sector.

The U.S. will strongly oppose recent projects and upcoming disbursements by the @the_IDB and other IFIs for Chinese state-owned and controlled companies in Colombia (and other BRI countries in the region). These projects endanger the region's safety and security. American tax dollars SHOULD NOT be used in any way by international organizations to subsidize Chinese companies in our hemisphere.

I could not disagree more. The fact remains that multilateral lenders in LATAM distress assets because they do not focus on returns. They focus on debt servicing. Only private capital seeking returns has the incentive to ensure projects get off the ground.

En Argentina la noticia ha estado muy enfocada en la relación Mauricio Claver-Carone/Francos, una conflictiva relación en el Bid.
Consultada una alta fuente cercana al flamante encargado para Latinoamérica, expresó:
1. Le tiene mucho respeto al Presidente Milei y espera trabajar estrechamente con él para ayudar a que tenga exito en su gestion, para el bien de los EEUU, Argentina, y la region.
2. Claver-Carone no es el problema de Francos. El problema de Francos es que hace unos meses publicamente acuso al Presidente Trump de ser corrupto y usar la presidencia para su beneficio propio.
Las declaraciones publicas de Francos hacia el Presidente Trump no solamente fueron insultantes e inapropiadas, pero como Jefe de Gabinete, reflejan pobremente sobre el gobierno. Y obviamente no piensa que el Presidente Milei comparta la opinion de Francos sobre el Presidente Trump.
