@alisonleary1 Yes, much experience and a set of standards but sadly not many gain the support needed to complete the specialist qualification. More likely to be ACP or on that pathway. Maybe support will improve when ACP is regulated by the NMC?

@iDrSunny Great use of stats to illustrate the issue. Similar with District Nursing - impacting on pressure on A&E / hospital admission. When I trained (as DNspecialist) in ‘98 there were over 12,000 sufficiently qualified DNs - now there are about 3800. I see it as NHS dis-integration

60,000 junior doctors in the NHS in 2017 3500 ANPs Yet ANPs had 65% of the same number of safety incidents as junior doctors in that year (From an FOI to NHS improvement)

@mancunianmedic 😂😂😂 That happened to me. Lovely hubby bought one and had it installed as a Xmas present. Mind you… That was a few years ago now, so might not even be an option. Good luck

Have always used Illich (1975) in my ethics teaching for prescribing students to illustrate the risks of disempowerment through the “medicalisation” of life. Have to contextualise his rants about epidemics tho in view of the swift, effective scientific response to COVID-19.
Susan Bewley@susan_bewley

The more we are medicalised, the sicker we feel. Bring back Illich (1975) as there's more evidence from new epidemics @HealthSenseUK @senseaboutsci @pash22 @Mental_Elf @ProfLAppleby @ProfRobHoward @mgtmccartney @deb_cohen @birthsmalltalk @birthandbiology journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.11…
