What I love about these examples is that they illustrate how the meanings of words and morphemes are *prototypal*, meaning that they have a core central meaning but lots of blurry edge cases where they bleed into other uses. Definitions can never be as neatly delineated as we wish they were.

@MLautmer Nah, personally I think the overwhelm w/ the grammar is just cos it’s soooo different from most Langs that use the Latin Alphabet. Korean is one of the easiest writing systems to learn yet the grammar still twists the brain 😂 don’t get intimidated. Slow & steady wins the race♥️

I am a total beginner in Japanese and have an ignorant/beginner-level question.
Is it the writing system which makes Japanese seem so daunting for Latin-alphabet learners? If Japanese were in Romaji only would the grammar feel less overwhelming to learn?

Don’t think I’ve told many ppl but this line from Thumper in Bambi had a profound effect on me as a kid. It’s become a guiding mantra of sorts in my life.

There seems to be a lot of misinformation floating around outside as well as inside the immersion community apparently. The biggest of which is that CI is a “method”. It isn’t. It’s the name of a hypothesis & the core principle of Krashens Second Language Acquisition Theory
