Take a look at this smokey haze at Nationals Park in DC. Some people told me they’re leaving the baseball game early because of the air quality from the Canada wildfires. Tonight at 10pm & 11pm @fox5dc. Yankees-White Sox & Phillies-Tigers games postponed due to poor air quality.

@emollick The AQI in much of the mid-Atlantic and Northeast is well beyond the end of Figure 4 in my paper where @mlb umpires are already missing and additional 1.5 our of every 100 calls.

Expect a dumb day in the Eastern US, due to smoke: 📉Stock traders underperform by 7% on heavily polluted days ♟⚾️High pollution increases the errors made by chess players & umpires in big ways 🕴️Moderate pollution drops the quality of politicians' speeches by a half a grade

Umpires apply greater effort to higher-stakes decisions, and effort applied to earlier decisions increases errors later, from James E. Archsmith, Anthony Heyes, Matthew J. Neidell, and Bhaven N. Sampat nber.org/papers/w28922

#AcademicTwitter #EconTwitter for women who got married in grad school, what did you do for your last name? Keep your maiden name or change? What about your middle name? Any unexpected things you had to deal with when making the change? @AcademicChatter

I was introduced to someone at #ASSA2020. When I said that I’m an environmental economist, this person glanced at my hair and said “makes sense”. #PhDEconSocialSkills 😂🤷🏻‍♂️

@mattyglesias Doesn’t look like they controlled for catcher framing, something that explains a lot of “bad” calls...

$827k doesn't get you much in Boulder. Although it is apparently a large dumpster.

In 2018 the US generated 50% more electricity from grid scale solar PV (63 TWh) than it did by burning wood (41 TWh).

@mdhershman Idiosyncratic is specific to an individual. Eccentric is odd. So your favorite snack is Idiosyncratic, regardless of what it is. Liking to snack on peanut butter and cheese is eccentric.

@a40ruhr People regularly photograph my slides at conferences (even though I make my presentations available). The footer line provides a record of the author, title, date and slide number so they can properly cite it or reference the specific presentation if they later have questions.
