@aeolani I have been through an awful lot in the past 2 years. This is a big issue - it would take us hours and couldn't do it online. It is not a straightforward debate, but it will be an ongoing one. Please instead of calling us out on the eve of our event, maybe join the #ISLS2024

Do you remember @JimSlotta over two years go when we had this same conversation on Facebook? I made similar points directly to you then. I’m speaking out now because this is still an issue.

I’m not in Montreal & just found out I can’t present b/c “personal laptops cannot be connected” during the meeting so my co-authors will have to present without me despite the Herculean efforts of @tannervea, @learnsolidarity & @DrSurajUttam. This is beyond disappointing #ISLS23

@aeolani @AmalIbourk @ISLS2023 we have been working with many session chairs to help them with backup plans for such. We are a bit overwhelmed but trying to stay on top of them all. Session chairs are definitely important to this.

@AmalIbourk @ISLS2023 My coauthors will present and this was one of the multiple backup plans that we had put in place from the beginning of this.

@aeolani @tannervea @learnsolidarity @DrSurajUttam Hi Cynthia, Hopefully you received communications from your program chair about how session chairs can support these people who were unfortunate casualties of the Canadian visa snafu (an immigration strike, at the wrong time)... We do have a model, and have been communicating!

@aeolani I disagree with the use of this hashtag to describe something that you're not even representing accurately. It is offensive to some members of our organizing committee and membership. Many "kind and imaginative people" are highly engaged in this labour of love, and we do care.

Not only is there no hybrid option- why not COMPUTER supported COLLABORATIVE learning folks?!? Now the efforts of kind and imaginative people on the ground to bring others into collaborative digital spaces is going to be even more difficult. #digitalApartheid is not a good look.

@aeolani @ISLS2023 hi everyone, as an organizer of ISLS2023 I am hurt by this, and also disagree. Our diverse committee has taken these issues ("what is a conference") seriously, and developed our approach over 2+ years, with ISLS board participation. Sorry you feel this way. #moretothestory

.@ISLS2023 we have to decide what a conference is: An opportunity to see all your friends in a cool city? Robust communities of people coming together via multiple modalities to share ideas? Current design decisions have led to exclusion & unexamined hierarchies of participation.
