Hi, everyone. I'd like to take a break from the usual jokes to express my sincere condolences as we all morn the unexpected passing of our dear friend and colleague, @tr_hudson.
It's difficult to put into words, and I am still reeling from the news, but I knew TR better than most, and I want do do him justice in the way he deserves.
Since I found out, I've been telling myself that it couldn't possibly be true; that this is some kind of a waking dream; that anytime now, I'll see a notification for one of his one-of-a-kind DMs; that the man who impacted all of our lives so much isn't really gone forever. The reality is still setting in for me.
To say that TR left an impression on those he knew is an understatement. There's hardly a person here who doesn't vividly remember the first time TR Hudson (the author) darkened their doorstep. None of us is without fault, and TR reveled in teaching us this poignant lesson time and time again, both through his words and his actions.
He published two or three books, the titles of which escape me right now. While they didn't make a splash financially, his fans both adored them, and hardly a day goes by without the long-awaited sequel to his seminal work Automatron being uproariously referenced by those who knew him best.
It is true that he took a lot of cheap shots at me and others over the years, but I could always tell that he was just clumsily trying to make friends in his own special way, and I don't think any of us ever took a single word of his to heart.
He was a staple in the many group chats we shared, always quick to belt out a bawdy joke or to hurl a tactless insult, especially to those whom he had just met. And while he would always take the opportunity to kick you when you were down, he also had a way of somehow bringing a smile to his face. He was as good a friend as he was a writer, and his unmistakable presence was always felt by those around him.
He is survived by a host of authors he ironically considered beneath him, and who he often swore would rue the day they declined to edit his books for free. The world lost a great author today, and we are all poorer for it. But it also lost TR Hudson. I take comfort in knowing that he died at his peak, and did not outlive his artistic skill.
Goodbye, my friend. Today is the day Automatron 2 will finally be published - forever etched in granite upon your desolate tombstone. I know you're looking up at us right now and wondering how we will ever go on without you. Please rest assured that we'll manage. ❤️
