Jimmy Kimmel’s humor might land for many of us, but it won’t necessarily pull a true believer out of the cult of Trump. Facts, logic, even sharp comedy rarely shift someone who’s deeply indoctrinated. What does help is genuine, respectful curiosity. Open-ended questions. Reality-testing grounded in someone’s actual lived experience. That’s why sharing a Kimmel clip with a MAGA-involved loved one often backfires; it feels like an attack, not an invitation to think. The most effective path is one-on-one warm connection. Genuinely wish to re-enter their life. Ask things like, "How are you feeling about the state of America and the world?" or “How are you feeling about food prices?” or “What do you make of Trump attacking Iran?” These kinds of questions create a safe exit ramp — and people do wake up when someone they trust helps them reconnect to their own values.
