The portal has actually made it a semi liability to draft 4 and 5 star freshman QBs unless you expect them to start over a proven production portal QB. Will Mencil is a better fit for Auburn because the path to starting at QB is miles harder with Moore and Raiola ahead of any incoming freshman.

You wanna blame the led lights but have you thought just once that we wanted him, but not at the price he wanted. And the reality is he was a popular developmental piece. The portal works both ways, now we are going to rip a proven mid major player and their fan base will be upset.

@_JHokanson You can’t blame the agent everytime someone transfers all teams operate under the same climate. Maybe if our AD wasn’t spending money trying to make an EDM concert at all our athletics events we could afford to resign players or maybe get an O line for the first time in 10 years

@TrulyL3GiiTT @_JHokanson @BMattAU Seeing as we own both, objectively speaking you would want to see your defense do better. If the offense spanked defense, I’d be really happy for the O but this is bad overall. Without BB threat of running in scrimmages really takes away the offensive advantage.

@DKThompson Auburn hasn’t held a scrimmage yet. Are they talking about practice in general?

A couple of notes from someone at the scrimmage: - Scrimmage was pretty good, very organized, much more organized than Auburn. Definitely used that as a measuring stick, as both teams or staffs have been there the same amount of time and came from similar G5 programs. - Utilized a ton of different personnel groupings, which was impressive to see in 3 to 4 months to implement the scheme. - QBs got lots of reps, coaches had lots of energy. - Well-run scrimmage. - QBs I thought, played well. Nobody I think, is a difference maker, but the floor is high, but ceiling is also low. I don’t think you guys have a real difference maker at QB. Needs to just be someone who can operate the offense efficiently while you lean on the run game

I hope this is his dream job and I hope auburn recognizes that his approach is what builds sustained performance over the long haul.

@_JHokanson @BMattAU i think somehow john cohen screwed up and backed into an nfl-type coach. i'm not saying he's going to eventually go to the nfl but i could not have been more impressed in this interview. so refreshing and i can't help but think he's going to be successful.

The last 30 seconds are interesting to me. Golesh acknowledges how difficult it is to ask people for their hard-earned money amid the uncertainty that exists. It’s impressive that Auburn has maintained a solid NIL war chest despite five straight years of below-average football.

@_JHokanson 100%. We aren’t trying to win the Super Bowl. Whatever weakness exists (if there is) will, in my opinion, be mitigated by scheme matchups, his overall arm strength, and the threat of his legs.

Throwing motion matters, sure, but in college, productivity and wins are what matters. Let scouts worry about his motion when he’s trying to make an NFL roster. For now, the job is simple: move the ball, score points and win.
