It's kind of worrisome that we're facing a public health crisis and several decades of scorched-earth ideological warfare have ensured that we don't even have a common definition of "public" capable of cutting across the partisan divide

Personally, I'd like to see my tax dollars spent to provide well-remunerated and attractive jobs for accountable people to handle tasks that serve the public good, but hey, that's just me

Government isn't just bullshit political posturing by elected officials to score points on cable news or in partisan media outlets; there are actual jobs involved, actual stakes, and actual outcomes

It's easy to denigrate government when you think you don't need it, or make-believe some VC-funded dumbass app can do the job better, but public health crises require public responses carried out by people who have some fucking idea what they're doing

Coronavirus is a good reminder that we do, in fact, need to have bureaucracies and governmental bodies with regulatory powers to deal with matters that affect us all, ideally run by competent career professionals
