Austin Metcalf is dead.
Let’s stop dancing around the obvious.
Austin Metcalf received the death penalty.
Karmelo Anthony received 35 years.
One of them lives.
One of them gets a gravestone.
Save the faux outrage.
The real victim in this case is NOT the convicted killer.
The real victim is the young man who will never come home again and the family that will spend the rest of their lives grieving a loss that can never be undone.
This was a track meet.
A place for competition, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
NOT violence.
NOT murder.
And spare us the racial narratives.
Murder is wrong regardless of the race of the victim or the perpetrator. Any decent society should be able to agree on that.
Austin Metcalf lost everything.
His family got a life sentence of grief.
And while some are busy turning this tragedy into a racial debate, the Metcalf family is looking at the empty chair at the dinner table and remembering who actually paid the highest price.

If this happened to Texas, I would be furious too, I'm not denying that at all.
None of us expected Sorsby’s injunction to actually be approved, full stop.
But the reality is that Sorsby filed the lawsuit, they went to court, and the judge granted the injunction. People shouldn't blame Texas Tech for simply operating within the rules they were given; they should be angry at the system that allowed this to happen in the first place.
Right now, a bill that would prevent this exact situation is struggling to pass because of disagreements between stakeholders.
But how do you get large groups of people with competing priorities to suddenly find common ground?
You give them a common enemy. You give them a glaring example they can look at and collectively say, "That shouldn't happen" or "This is wrong."
As frustrating as it is, this entire situation is completely necessary. It creates the pressure needed to drive real change and make the required progress to keep college sports alive.
