Thank you to everyone who reached out after my post yesterday. I didn’t expect it to reach so many people, but since the truth is out there, here’s a little more of my story. My gambling didn’t start last year. It started in 6th grade, when I was sold me a winning 50/50 ticket for $2,000 at a baseball game. By 7th grade I was rolling dice for lunch money. By the time I was 18, I had 40+ offshore accounts. I thought it was all just fun and I could get away with it cause I was young… When I turned 21 in college, it got dangerous. I couldn’t stop winning at first… parlays, straights, glitches, anything. I’d win $8k in a day, buy the whole bar shots, black out, and wake up with thousands in charges that didn’t even matter because I was “up so much.” I gave friends money, bought them watches, threw tens of thousands away at gentlemen’s clubs while on booze and drugs. Was it fun? At first, yeah it was a lot of fun… I would be lying if I said it wasn’t. But numbness grows quietly. Even when I was up over $400K, I never bought myself a single thing. And then the losing started. And it didn’t stop. One day I lost $100,000. In ONE day. I called and was screaming at a bank worker to let me deposit more. That moment still makes me sick how selfish I was to someone just doing their job. From there, it snowballed. I silently destroyed my mind, my finances, and the person I thought I was. I became the man I used to joke about when I first started gambling…addicted, desperate, ashamed. I couldn’t even look at myself in the mirror. Addiction doesn’t happen overnight.
