When @MohamedNasheed is present, the public mood shifts noticeably almost like an alarm clock that wakes people up. His presence sparks attention, discussion, and a sense of urgency across the country. People begin to reflect more, speak more openly, and engage more actively with national issues. It creates a moment where awareness rises, conversations deepen, and the direction of the country feels more closely watched and questioned. I guess he also stands out because he speaks openly about critical issues like climate change and corruption topics that directly impact the future of the Maldives and demand constant attention.

@malshasharyf Don’t be delirious The whole public is fed up of politics That is the reason why people are not turning up for rallies not because they approve of Muniz or anyone for that matter They are simply done with politics They will show their frustrations at the ballot boxes

See what we told you? They claimed the whole public is against the regulation of media. But the reality? Just MDP politicians sitting in the audience. No real public. No real movement. MDP is behind making this issue bigger than it is. The bill has already been amended in consultation with relevant stakeholders. Media must be regulated just like every other sector. The only ones trying to destabilize this country are certain journalists and media outlets paid by MDP not the people. #PassTheMediaBill

Portuguese never invaded Maldives. Our textbooks are completely wrong. It's a story manufactured by Amin Didi's father in law, Hussain Salahuddin, by inserting politically convenient material. Then Amin Didi fixed 1 Rabi Al Awwal as National Day, romanticising it as anti colonial victory to follow the post war nationalist wave around the world at the time and framed it as the day Bodu Thakurufaanu expelled “Portuguese” and “liberated” Male'. He institutionalised "Portuguese liberation" story that his father in law manufactured as the holiday’s core. That's what we teach our kids in school now. There’s no solid evidence we were ever under Portuguese sovereignty for 15 years. Portuguese state records don't have anything on it either but they have records of their invasion of other places. Empires keep paperwork. When an early modern empire actually takes sovereignty, it leaves a paper trail. Royal decrees (annexation/treaties), appointments of a captain major/governor, regimentos, tax/tribute registers etc. For every confirmed conquest, you can find records in the royal/colonial archives. If Portugal had really held sovereignty of Maldives for 15 years, we’d expect at minimum, a royal act/treaty naming Maldives as a possession, a captain/captain major of “Maldives” with a regimento, budgets, ecclesiastical records, recurring administrative correspondence etc. None of these have been produced for Maldives. But they exist in abundance for Portugal’s confirmed conquests. What existed in Male' was a local regency with foreign adventurers, not colonial sovereignty. It was foreign influence without imperial annexation. Most Maldivians would probably read HCP Bell's book but he also made a mistake when he mentioned Portuguese. He relied on an English translation of the Tarikh in which the translator used generic labels like Nasorah/Kaafaru/Faranji, as “Portuguese,” importing a nationality Dhivehi text hadn’t named. There was also a old European habit of equating influence with rule. Cause a Male' regent was backed by mixed foreign adventurers, some assumed it was Portuguese rule, but there was no handover of power. @axanner
Ahmed Azaan@axanner

On this National Day we recall how Boduthakurufaanu liberated the Maldives from Portuguese rule. Just as our forefathers fought for independence, we must protect it today by resisting foreign influence and building self-reliance.
