@AndyHolloway for anyone who has it done as an adult, the best advice I have (other than hydrate which is so important) is to set alarms to wake you up during the night to take your prescribed pain medicine. was the best advice I was given, you dont want a lapse in pain relief early on

@AndyHolloway that sounds awful, glad they're all healed up. i had mine a few years ago at 32 and even being as overly-prepared as I was, it was still real rough (and I was fortunate enough to not need any ER trips during recovery).

I've still yet to hear a story of a tonsillectomy in an adult that went well... We just got done with 3+ weeks of medical mayhem, our 17 year old got a tonsillectomy on the 23rd of April, then on day 11 had a bleeding emergency which required ER trips, transfers, and emergency surgery which reset his entire healing process. He got through it the second time, as we're on day 20 after that surgery and he's finally healed up. Scary few weeks. I had one at 27 that also didn't go well, and that seems to be the story for everyone I've talked to. So if you have to do it, be careful! Stay hydrated, more than you think, and endure for the long haul! It's a tough one and all our family has had to focus on for the last month basically.
