Paul Simmons: Culture over Everything When @PaulSimmonsHU became head coach of @Harding_FB in '17, he had already helped build the program as a coordinator. A former Bison linebacker, he focused everything on identity, discipline, and belief. In '23, Harding reached the top ⬇️ Before taking over as head coach, Simmons had already spent years helping build a culture of discipline and toughness within Harding’s defense. He stepped into the top role determined to extend those values across the entire program. Simmons credits much of his coaching philosophy to his mentor, former Harding head coach Ronnie Huckeba. Simmons shaped Harding’s identity around that culture. He held players to high standards and built a roster that reflected those expectations. The wins came because the culture was already established. In 2023, Harding went 15–0, rushed for over 6,160 yards, and won the school’s first NCAA national title.
