@BannedMacMahon @WindhorstESPN Fun fact: Wemby's team-friendly deal is almost equivalent to getting a supermax on any of the California teams after taxes.

Circling back on one of the earlier signings, the new contract for #NYR Pavel Dorofeyev @ $11M AAV gives a great example of why NYC athletes would consider taking a longer commute by living in New Jersey instead of the city. 🏦+$535k / yr after-taxes in this scenario

@JockTaxes Most live in Westchester (and some in CT) to be closer to practice facility & HPN where they fly in/out of.

Despite finishing outside the NHL's top 50 in scoring, Leo Carlsson will make nearly DOUBLE what reigning Hart Trophy winner Nikita Kucherov will earn in 2026-27 😳 Welcome to the new NHL 🫨

A few updates to the JockTaxes site: 1. Added a data table to accompany the "Tax by Jurisdiction" chart 2. Re-added image exports to several of the tax modules & charts so you can save a pre-formatted copy of the data as an image w/o screenshotting. Try it here: jocktaxes.com/nhl/

@JockTaxes It would be useful to portray the exchange rate in this case as a portion of salary earned is spent in Canada where the Canadian dollar is weaker than the US dollar.

@gamscout Another fun one: Carlsson will pay more in taxes (~$10.4M) next season than these Hart winners will earn in total salary: - Kucherov (2026-27) - $7M - MacKinnon (2027-28) - $9.9M - Matthews (2027-28) - $10M

Through their NHL careers currently, Logan Cooley has played ten more games than Leo Carlsson, and has eleven more points. He’s making 8 million dollars per year less than Leo. I love Leo but that 18 million is insane.

@JFreshHockey Just like the players, little Timmy Dundon also lost teeth during the grueling playoff run. He deserves it.

can we be real here that there is a difference between an owner including their adult family members who had some role in the organization (even if just as governors or some business/foundation role or whatever) and an owner including his kid who's in the second grade?
Mike Paradigm@Mike_Paradigm

@DownGoesBrown Also one or two short of the Ilitch family in 07-08. While I agree it’s in bad taste, this idea that it hasn’t been done before makes people look rather unintelligent. It’s just the most egregious since the advent of short form social media.

To help drive this home...compare the two scenarios here: [Left] - How Carlsson is *probably* going to be taxed [Right] - If he instead grew up in somewhere like FL or TX and had maintained his permanent domicile there ~ $2.7 million difference (just one season's pay)

While it's possible for players to save on taxes due from signing bonuses, it's a little tougher for someone like Carlsson (a foreign national) to pull off. That's because it's based on where you're "domiciled", not where you sign the deal. CA has very strict standards on this.
It Is What It Is - Eddie 🇵🇷@demorizi_eddie

@ReinoFanClub13 Since it’s signing bonuses doesn’t he just have to sign the deal outside of California?

@devn0t I'd live in an inflatable raft on the Delaware River for an extra $2 million tbh. But somehow I think Leo will be plenty happy in Anaheim *only* netting $10.4 M next season. 😉
