These aerial photographs are an excellent example of strip grazing on cover crops. Strip grazing is when livestock are given access to one small section of a field at a time, letting them graze evenly while the rest of the cover crop rests and recovers. While it requires a bit of preparation and labor, strip grazing brings a multitude of benefits to the soil, such as... 🌾 High impact and longer rest periods - Livestock create a beneficial disturbance followed by extended rest, allowing soils and plants time to recover and strengthen. 🌾 Improved nutrient cycling - Manure and urine are distributed more evenly across the field, returning nutrients directly to the soil where they’re most needed. 🌾 Soil Armor - The higher herd density encourages more trampling, pressing crop residue into the surface to form a protective layer over the soil. @SoilLorax Planting to shallow or lack of soil structure are a couple possibilities.

Help! Field w/partial lodging issues over many years. #Corn that lodged didn't have brace roots. Why would some corn not grow brace roots? No pests or stalk issues. #Diskripped, cont corn, less issues in wheel tracks. Well fertilized. Tried multiple hybrids. #mncorn

@60inCornFarmer The early corn is looking pretty good up here in ND. The later hasn’t kicked into high yet.

mudding in the last couple acres after getting rained out. We are definitely pushing the limits of late season interseeding here

@agrivation1 If I was in a corn bean rotation that would be a good plan but I usually have a four year with cereals and specialty crops.

@JoeBreker Looking good! So 30” beans in there? Then 60” corn next year where the rye/alfalfa is now?

Burning down my rye/alfalfa cover crop planted a year ago in my #pairrow60” corn, it might be alittle early but a few weeds are getting pretty far along.

@PoppePaul The corn that got in earlier last year was good but the plantings right before our big vacation last year struggled.
