and that which is decaying becomes nourishing for what’s next. I feel like that’s the season we’re in right now. Still heavy on the decay. A necessary part of the process. But the regeneration… it’s coming.

Where something dies—like a caterpillar dissolving into cellular soup inside a chrysalis before its DNA is restructured into a butterfly, or fallen plants in the desert becoming moisture-rich soil, or wildfires making the forest floor fertile again after destruction—

Regenerative decay. Last night at his talk with Brother Bayo Akomolafe, Resmaa Menakem mentioned something about regenerative decay.

I’ve been putting in more work behind the scenes lately, but grateful to step out for this dope fundraising event by Strange Loop Laboratory. We’re raising funds for the Immigrant Law Center and the Los Amigos Program with a fire line up of poets, storytellers, and songwriters.

Elevating the process.

I’ve been out the way and taking my time lately. Even if you ain’t heard from me in a minute, know that I’m always rooting for you and sending you all the love your heart can hold.

There’s a systemic force that wants me to feel fatigued and powerless. There’s a spiritual source that knows I’m resilient and powerful. I get to choose where I place my attention and focus.

I thought this season of growth and transformation would require me to work harder than I ever have before. But I’m starting to realize it may be calling me to rest more than I ever have before.
