WESTERN CAPE FARMER IN COURT AFTER CHILD LEFT WITH BROKEN LEGS A case unfolding in the Western Cape has sparked national debate and strong emotions across South Africa. Christoffel (Chris) Stoman, a farmer from the Lutzville/Vredendal area, is facing serious criminal charges following an incident involving a six-year-old boy, Khwezi Jantjies According to court proceedings, Stoman was arrested in September 2024 and charged with attempted murder as well as reckless and negligent driving Prosecutors allege that he drove his vehicle into the child after the boy was suspected of taking fruit from the farm The young boy reportedly suffered severe injuries, including broken legs. The matter has since moved through the Vredendal Magistrate’s Court and into the Regional Court, with bail proceedings and legal arguments taking place as both the prosecution and defence prepare for trial.
