💪 Harriers have further strengthened their defence with the acquisition of Festus Arthur, subject to confirmation.
Welcome to Aggborough, Festus!

@kendallrowanx Should do what I do and take the same attitude as the players and just take it like a normal game and just accept the loss.
It did not feel like a derby for me yesterday so until the players step up, I’m just treating like any other game.
😳 Anthony Gordon to Newcastle United's in-house media team: "The frustrating thing is, in my opinion, they’re not a very good team, compared to us..."

@tedpearson20@JamesCopley_ Newcastle couldn’t get anywhere near Sunderland in the second half.
Regis pulled off a masterclass in these two fixtures and definitely was planning it well in advance.
We will continue to struggle in these fixtures going forward and I reckon Sunderland will both next year too.
@JoeShieldsMag1@JamesCopley_ Ffs Joe , at the Sol it was a terrible game but we won , today we played very bell second half and your so called superstars still couldnt beat us .
All fine and well battering a league one team in a cup tie but we ain’t that pushover anymore
@Nufc2Everything@NUFC Sorry mate but sacking him after losing to sunderland isn’t going to cut it.
Unfortunately we lost today due to pure desire and obsession from Sunderland to go and win today.
If we want to cut all ambition and put everything into the derby then we may stand a better chance.
@Major_Nielson@kowalski79@slbsn Absolutely yes,
NFL teams have lots of lucrative revenue streams and it’s better for all teams when everyone is thriving.
🤑 The success of the Premier League now means its top clubs are too expensive for their owners to find buyers. Nobody is buying Chelsea for £4bn (their break even), nobody is buying Spurs for £3bn, nobody is buying United for £5bn. All stuck - new minorities the best hope.
It means that fans can protest but ultimately it’s irrelevant. Forthcoming economic environment plus higher for longer interest rates makes it even harder and refinancing much more expensive than envisaged just 3 months ago.
@kowalski79@slbsn NFL teams are a better investment too with no risk of relegation, rewards for having a bad season (high draft pick), and fairer playing field too in terms of being able to get players in regardless of your revenue.
@JSWC1995@NLNCentral I didn’t want to jinx it before the game mate but I thought we would beat them today.
Shields were dominant for majority of the game but Merthyr did hit the crossbar in the first few minutes.
Both of us still have tough fixtures coming up which could change things even more.
@JoeShieldsMag1@NLNCentral I told you mate there would be twists and turns yet, this was the game I feared because of the 4G and the fact they're a huge shithouse team. The type we don't do well against. Never for a second thought you wouldn't win against Merthyr.
@dialm4merthyr@MerthyrTownFC@SouthShieldsFC I don’t think the club has anyway of working around it for segregated games.
Tams bar is an excellent establishment and I probably spend more time there than I do in the ground on a match day.
@JSWC1995@NLNCentral It’s an another twist and turn in this title race mate.
I refuse to get myself excited by it all because we are completely different at home compared to our last 3 games away.
@carbri41@MerthyrTownFC It’s going to be very interesting for the next month.
Currently I remain on the edge whether we will win the league or not.
If we are able to beat Spennymoor on Good Friday, I will feel more confident.
Full Time.
A difficult afternoon in South Shields.
♥️ Thank you though to all those 200+ Martyrs made the trip - 𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗗𝗜𝗕𝗟𝗘!

@megaspoon1984@MerthyrTownFC One of them fell onto the pitch when the penalty went in.
Really good bunch of supporters especially for the journey that they had to make for a national league north match.
@SouthShieldsFC Really big win and a bonus with Fylde losing so we have gained 3 points back on them.
Really need to keep this up now especially when we play away from home.
@Magpie24_7 I absolutely agree here with Jordan.
We are fighting a losing battle with PSR and the only way we can even get near the established clubs is by building high quality infrastructure.
Something we haven’t seen any progress in despite plenty of noise?!?!
Simon Jordan has staunchly defended Eddie Howe’s position at Newcastle United, asserting that even a high-profile manager like Luis Enrique could not surpass Eddie's current achievements!:
"The challenge for them is: How do Newcastle United square this circle of having the idea of having the world's richest owners? Having this marvellous fanbase that are - not demanding success - but wanting it so much and obviously we saw that last year when they won the League Cup."
Simon questioned whether our current league position is truly a failure, noting that we are largely sitting behind clubs we should realistically be competing with. He argued that finishing around sixth or seventh would constitute a job well done, despite the high expectations set by our previous Champions League qualification.
"Other than that, where is the argument, what can Newcastle do? They've got to punch massively above their financial weight to break into the top six, so really and truly what we are talking with Newcastle being ninth in the Premier League, is if they go past Brentford and Everton and finish seventh or sixth, they've done their job. But they won't have done their job prima facie because they have been successful in getting into the Champions League."
He highlighted the "commercial reality" that prevents Newcastle from matching the spending power of Europe’s elite, citing our inability to keep top talent away from "legacy clubs like Liverpool."
He suggested that the path forward for the PIF involves long-term infrastructure rather than just transfer spending.
"They have got the moniker of having the world's richest owners, but they have got the backdrop...the commercial reality (is) they cannot go pound-for-pound with these boys who are spending £250m every transfer window. They can't keep their best players, because their best players are going to legacy clubs like Liverpool. So what do they do? The only thing they can do is do something that they should have done and what they should be doing now, which is build a new stadium. Increase the capacity of the stadium, increase the revenues, get some more opportunities to be able to monetise themselves better."
As we attempt to move past our European 'nightmare,' Eddie must quickly refocus the squad. We face Sunderland in the Tyne-Wear derby this Sunday, a match that now takes on even greater significance as we look to get back into Europe next season and get back 'on the saddle' after last night's painful second half.
