It was not me asking strangers to diagnose Kyle Busch. It was a rhetorical reaction to the exact public timeline ESPN reported. At 10:57 a.m. ET, #ESPN reported that Kyle Busch had been hospitalized due to a “severe illness” and was undergoing treatment. The article did not mention a prior illness, chronic condition, or any longer medical history. It presented the situation as something that had resulted in hospitalization that day. Then at 5:49 p.m. ET, ESPN reported that he had died after being hospitalized earlier in the day as the result of a severe illness. The same article also said no cause of death was given. That is the context for my post. When someone reads “hospitalized earlier today due to severe illness” and then, hours later, reads “died,” it is completely normal to react with shock. Saying “what the fuck kills you in 6 hours?” is obviously an expression of disbelief at how fast the reported situation appeared to unfold. It is rhetorical. It is not a request for random people on the internet to start naming medical conditions. The note treats a shocked rhetorical statement like it was a literal request for a diagnosis. That completely misses the point. I was reacting to the information available at the time: hospitalized earlier that day, severe illness, no cause of death given, no prior illness mentioned in the article I saw, then dead roughly six hours later. That is an insane and heartbreaking timeline to process in real time. People can dislike the wording. Fine. But acting like the post needed correction because I didn’t already know the private medical details of a sudden death is ridiculous. The whole point was shock, not certainty.
