I don't begrudge Trudeau's right to take a vacation.
I take no issue with high-security costs in protecting a prime minister no matter who it is.
I don't expect the prime minister to fly commercial though I know some others do just that.
The prime minister doesn't need to stay in a Super-8 while traveling.
The issue at hand right now is one of influence peddling.
Prime ministers aren't like other folks. They wield a great deal of power, and whether it is perception or reality, care has to be taken to ensure that access or influence hasn't been purchased from them.
I have been listening to some dingbats saying things like "What? You have never stayed at a friend's cottage for a weekend?"
Come on. There is a world of difference between staying at a friend's place for a while and staying at a resort that could have rented that space for $84,000 during the period you were there. Most Canadians don't even make that much in a year.
Inappropriate gifts for politicians aren't always in straight cash. With the "gift" for Trudeau's vacation being of an $84,000 value, it beggars belief that some favours won't be expected.
It doesn't matter if Canada's sad excuse for an Ethics Commissioner signed off on it. It's Canadians who will judge whether or not it was appropriate and as Canadians struggle to buy food and pay rent, they will have little sympathy for a silver-spoon, trust-fund baby who currently has a six-figure income with every life expense currently being paid by taxpayers getting an $84,000 "gift" on top of it all.
This latest fiasco demonstrates just how disconnected Trudeau is from Canadians and how deeply privileged he is. He likely still hasn't even a clue why people are upset.
Trudeau's social media fartcatchers are engaged in a campaign of whataboutism as they lamely try to distract people from what happened. It won't help.
As the Liberals continue to plummet in the polls, Trudeau appears determined to try and see if there is a bottom to be found. He just keeps the bleeding going.
There isn't a chance in hell that fool will be re-elected again. He is too distanced from reality to relate to voters. Unfortunately, in Canada's system, he could still manage to stay in there for two or even nearly three more years if he amends the Elections Act.
Look at the damage his inept administration has already done and imagine what they will do once they know they have nothing left to lose.
It's going to get a lot worse before it gets better folks.
