Linus Omark has announced his retirement from professional hockey.
From Övertorneå, Sweden, Linus was drafted by the @EdmontonOilers in the 2007 @NHL Entry Draft out of Luleå HF’s program in Luleå, Sweden. After returning to Luleå and spending an additional season in Europe, Linus joined the Oilers organization with their affiliate in Oklahoma City before joining the Oilers partway through the 2010-11 NHL season.
Linus made his NHL debut on December 10, 2010, at home against the Tampa Bay Lightning, and picked up his first NHL point with an assist on a second-period goal. After regulation, overtime, and 4 shootout attempts couldn’t break the deadlock, the game was on Linus’ stick. As the infamous call goes, “the spin move, the shot, the goal!” Linus won the game for Edmonton with a dazzling display of skill.
Linus appeared in 51 games for the Oilers in his rookie season, playing 66 regular-season games with the organization from 2010 to 2013. In December 2013, Linus joined the @BuffaloSabres and played with the club for the remainder of the 2013-14 NHL season.
After his time in the NHL, Linus’ career continued in Europe, with league championships in Switzerland’s National League (NL) in 2023 and the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) in 2025. Linus also returned to play in Luleå, where his professional career began.
Linus proudly represented Sweden on the international stage, highlighted by a gold medal victory at the 2017 IIHF Men’s World Ice Hockey Championships.
Congratulations on a great career, Linus, and welcome to the NHL Alumni Association!
