I vowed to remember Blaise every year on this date. He was a charmer - when I was a real young reporter - he used to shout out from across the garage -"you're lookin' good today Claire B." and I would shout "Shut up Blaise -I could be your grandmother...go work on your race car." We laughed. He lost his sponsor and was devastated. I bought him a book "Failing Forward" a New York times best seller. I wrote in it. Years after his death - one of the pit crew guys he lived with came to me. Blaise's parents had let his friends live in his house until they all moved on with their lives. His friend asked if I had given Blaise a book. His room remained the same for years and the book was on his desk. His friend asked if I'd want it back. I said sure. Inside the book I had written " Blaise, you are goin' to the top." 🙏 A young, charming racer who was so full of life and will always be remembered. This one is for you Blaise.
