Max Blumenthal claims zero Democratic/progressive/DSA podcasters went against the party on genocide compared to Tucker Carlson, and praises his "principled stand" on Palestine and the Iran War. He then claims AOC has been "very quiet" about the Iran War.

Jake Sullivan on Gaza: Too many innocent people died in Gaza as a result of Israel's military operations. I woke up every morning and went to sleep every night thinking about what we could do to try to alleviate the suffering. I have also said that genocide, from my perspective, requires actually an intent to do the destruction — and not to fight a terrorist foe while conducting operations in a way that killed too many civilians. Should we or could we have done more? I ask myself that question every day. And the answer must be yes, of course, because too many people died and suffered. I think about what opportunity here or what chance there or what move there, and I play that back in my head.

@joetobomb @TheoCW @katewillett To the extent that her answer was coherent, it suggested that she’s onboard with the fantasy that the US can contain China in East Asia. Yes she’s gotten better on Gaza since the absolute embarrassment at the DNC, but I see little evidence that she’s ready for the presidency.

@TheoCW @katewillett Nothing “clear” about her support of imperialism and “style” doing a lot. She’s clearly against the genocide in Gaza and perhaps you have negatively polarized yourself.

I loved Bernie’s 2020 campaign but it couldn’t happen today. If AOC runs in 2028 a lot of the left will have to openly make the case for healthcare + liberal imperialism. It’s going to get racist. The “us” in “not me,us” will be spelled out, and it’ll hurt it isn’t all of us.

Ritchie Torres already has a primary challenger from his left, a person who's an actual Democrat and not a LaRouche shill. But Briahna Joy Gray would rather push the right-wing cultist.

@thomaschattwill @CathyYoung63 Clinton won because of Perot. Obama won because he said vaguely antiestablishment things and Bush had tanked the economy. Biden won because of widespread exhaustion with Trump and because the left was divided in the primary. None won on the popularity of centrist policies.

This makes no sense. Bill Clinton won twice running as a centrist in 1992 and 1996 Barack Obama won twice as a centrist in 2008 and 2012 Joe Biden won—again, running if not governing—as a centrist in 2020. How is centrism the problem?
@adammanross.bsky.social@adammanross

Al Gore lost in 2000 as a centrist. John Kerry lost in 2004 as a centrist. Hillary lost in 2016 as a centrist. Kamala lost 2024 as a centrist. If we’re going to win the 2026 midterms, we must abandon centrism all together. If the Democratic Party is to survive we must go left

@noam_dworman The Abraham Accords led to 10/7 to a far greater extent than unfreezing some assets and relaxing sanctions on a country that wasn’t directly involved 12 years earlier did.

It’s chilling that people of such influence can be this blatantly partisan, this dumb, or both. Iran signed the JCPOA because it served Iran’s interests at the time. (It surely wasn’t trembling at the thought of Obama’s military option.) Did the deal lead to 10/7 by giving Iran billions to fund its proxy network? Maybe. But post-10/7, the world has reset. Iran has been exposed as a paper tiger and humiliated in the 12-Day War. It is terrified by the Abraham Accords, by the prospect of Saudi Arabia joining, and by a future of unstoppable Israeli bombing runs. The JCPOA would not have prevented any of this. Iran's conclusion is obvious: go nuclear. Nothing else can restore its deterrence or rehabilitate its position in the region. If Saddam had gone nuclear, he would still be in Kuwait today. The JCPOA is irrelevant to Iran’s position today. There is only one thing that might make Iran postpone a bomb: American military pressure. Period. Rhodes either doesn’t see this, or pretends not to. His half-assed TDS analysis is an embarrassment.
Ben Rhodes@brhodes

Iran Deal put a lid on the nuclear program. It's loudest opponents in Israel and US needed to kill it bc they needed Iran to have an active program to justify war.

@RichMiiii @KyleKulinski The problem is that no government has the authority to determine who the legitimate head of state of another country is, and that US warrants have no jurisdiction in another country’s territory.

partial list of pathologies that all contribute to high cost and worse overall performance: * supply bottlenecks for providers * incredibly high cost of labor * explosion of administrative bloat * Certificate of Need laws * The entire 'non-profit' hospital deception * Hospital chain consolidation/market power * Opaque pricing/billing practices * Overtreatment/overtesting * Obese/unhealthy population * the entire structural mess that is drug pricing * Imbalance towards specialty care * Deficiencies in rural healthcare Insurance companies belong in that list too, but they're not the single unique villain that some people want them to be.

Insurance companies are sin-eaters for every other pathology in America's healthcare system. There are a LOT of broken parts of the US healthcare system, and it's remarkable how much blame insurance gets relatively to literally anything else.

The more I hear from this guy the more I stand by my original assessment. The throughline of his entire oeuvre is glazing and stoking political violence. Which makes sense because he’s hostile to liberal democracy and the mutual toleration it encourages.

Wrong why? While he was Prime Minister, was there any indication from the Palestinians that they were interested? Did they make any moves that might have persuaded the Israeli public to move to the center? What would you have done if YOU were Abbas and an interim Israeli Prime Minister was saying exactly what you are yearning to hear? Ignore him?

Kind of AMAZING that @mattyglesias and mostly everyone have forgotten that the Israeli Prime Minister made a UN speech calling for the 2-state solution in September of '22. It was answered with rockets... Nobody really cared.

We spend a tiny amount on our military compared to social welfare. People who use this talking point just want America to be a defenseless, weak country. They care about foreign policy, not about the poor.
