@DiscussingFilm If Arnold really returns to the Predator franchise, that would be legendary. Seeing the original icon back in the hunt would instantly bring back the classic energy that made the first film unforgettable. Fans would absolutely love this comeback. 🔥🎬

William Friedkin’s The Hunted (🌟🌟🌟) has its ups & it has its downs. The story here is simple: Benicio del Toro is a former soldier gone rogue who’s after his old mentor played by Tommy Lee Jones. It’s a vintage cat & mouse game that allows Friedkin to shine in certain set pieces. But at the same time, the story is largely under-developed & fails to land any sort of emotional punch. At day’s end, the action overcomes the story’s flaws, which is why I think you should ultimately consider watching this film- especially if you’re a Friedkin nut like myself. Leonardo DiCaprio spoke recently at sit down in Santa Barbra about how good of a driver Benicio del Toro is in real life, something DiCpario learned while shooting One Battle After Another. He mentioned that not only was del Toro whipping their car around in real life as was seen in the movie, he was doing it with cameras made for Vista Vision attached to the sides of the car. I fully believe every word out of Leo’s mouth because in The Hunted, there’s a car chase sequence in which del Toro absolutely shows off his driving chops. It’s probably the most memorable sequence of this film- that and the final stretch in which Jones & del Toro go at it hand-to-hand. But it would make total sense that del Toro’s driving is put to use in this film when you consider the man behind the camera: William Friedkin. Between The French Connection & To Live & Die in LA, Friedkin is responsible for two of the most memorable car chases in film history. That’s not hyperbole nor is it my opinion- it’s a stone cold fact, folks. Here, Friedkin sort of subverts your expectations of a car chase by putting del Toro in unmovable traffic. It’s breathtaking and- as I mentioned- perhaps the seminal moment of this film. Friedkin was a fearless, ruthless, relentless son of a bitch (complimentary) who always saw his vision through. It’s why I really appreciate moments like this in the later stages of his career. With that said, you’re probably wondering “why only 3 stars, Mr. Tweets? What gives?” Here’s what gives: there’s no real character development behind del Toro’s traumatized, rogue soldier. There are obvious parallels to this film and The Fugitive, none stronger than the fact that Jones is playing the man chasing a man on the run. But the difference here is unlike Richard Kimble in The Fugitive, del Toro’s motives are clearly questionable and not really built out. My issue with the film is we aren’t given enough reason in the first half of the story to really care emotionally about the plight of del Toro’s character. The first third of this film is the weakest part of the entire movie and doesn’t lay enough of emotional foundation to make the final act count more. It’s the reason I don’t believe this movie reaches its full potential. Worth seeing, might not be worth remembering.

Thanks 🫡, it was quite the grind to get there. Not the most predictable thing to drive

The fact that @WilliamByron was still in contention at the end after his car was screwed and taped together twice during the race shows just how good he is at superspeedway racing and making his way to the front.
