Andy Burnham is now Prime Minister, and I wish him every success in leading our country.
My job in the House of Commons – and that of the Conservative Party – will be to hold him to account.
We are going to hear a lot of announcements from the new Prime Minister in the coming days, and it is wrong that he is not coming to Parliament until September to answer questions about them.
We cannot continue to borrow more and more money. People are already paying too much tax, and any announcements the Labour Party make must be properly funded.
We need to get Britain working again, and the Conservatives will work with Andy Burnham in Parliament to cut the benefits bill. He has our support if he is willing to do it.
Labour have made so many mistakes in government over the last two years. I hope they don’t continue.
