🚨 The UK Government has announced new funding to support people who rely on heating oil. I am afraid the package is simply not good enough. The funding is not enough to support people in need. We all know about the huge spike in prices that has been seen in recent weeks following the outbreak of war in Iran. I have heard from hundreds of local people who have told me about the challenges they are facing. The SNP government in Scotland will receive additional funding as a result of this announcement, and they must urgently set out how people can access support and pass on all the new funding received from the UK Government. Everyone who relies on heating oil deserves a fair deal. I will not stop fighting for the support people deserve.

💷 I had a very productive catch-up with Cash Access UK this week. Access to cash services isn’t a luxury – it’s a necessity for many people across the Borders. Unfortunately, the big banks have let down loyal customers in the Borders for far too long. That’s why I’ll continue to fight for more Banking Hubs and to ensure everyone can access cash easily.

Couldn’t sleep last night! I fear it’s a grave mistake allowing a woman to abort a full term healthy baby for any reason & to not reinstate face to face consultations for abortion pills only safe to use up to ten weeks. Telemedicine is too easily lied to & undoubtedly will be. It’s already estimated 1 in 17 home abortions end up in A&E. There will be many more. It’s abandoning safeguarding for ease & any civilised rights a viable, innocent baby has. We have one of the longest abortion periods at 24 weeks in Europe & support for clinical abortion to term if any medical risk to the mother. I hope any future government will repeal this extension. And that we don’t lose women taking pills not designed to be used after ten weeks or paramedics called to homes unsure what to do with a live miscarried baby whose mother chose to terminate it? It’s a sad day

🚨 Grooming gangs operate across the UK. Survivors such as @fionagoddarduk have spoken about being trafficked between England and Scotland. We have two separate inquiries, but it is vital that they work closely together to uncover the truth.

.@BordersRecovers is a fantastic organisation that supports those recovering from substance use, as well as their friends and families. It was a real pleasure to congratulate graduates of their Recovery Training Course and to see the life-changing work they do.

This has been a hugely difficult vote. There are compelling arguments on both sides and I realise my decision will be supported by some and opposed by others. But looking at the detail, I could not support the Bill tonight with the risks of coercion and lack of safeguards.
