A competitor can’t just “add” this on top of an existing chain without it feeling like a bolted-on module (less secure, less efficient, higher trust assumptions). • Starting from scratch on a new L1 would indeed take years if done properly: • Years of security audits, economic modeling, and battle-testing (Flare/Songbird have been running for a while). • Building a decentralized network of data providers and stakers. • Attracting liquidity and developers while bootstrapping trust. • Most existing projects are optimizing within their own constraints: • Chainlink excels at oracles but doesn’t run its own L1. • Privacy/TEE projects (Phala, Secret, etc.) focus on compute but lack Flare’s data + asset bridging depth. • General EVM chains can add bridges, but they don’t get the enshrined security and incentive alignment. Some could chip away at pieces: That said, here are some nuances: • Modular or ecosystem plays could chip away at pieces (e.g., a strong XRP-focused bridge + oracle integration on another high-performance chain). • A well-funded team could attempt a “Flare-like” fork or new chain, but security and decentralization take time — rushing it creates vulnerabilities. • Incumbents like Chainlink + a strong L2/L1 partner could create a compelling alternative stack over time. Bottom line: Flare’s integrated, enshrined full-stack design creates a high barrier to entry. No one is currently in a position to offer the same combination with comparable maturity and security. That gives Flare a real window of opportunity, especially in the XRP ecosystem and data-intensive DeFi/RWA use cases. If the team continues executing well (TVL growth, dApp adoption, successful FCC rollout, etc.), this advantage could widen."
