See lots of people talking down on Dubai & the UAE in the past 24-48 hours. I’ve been a resident of the UAE and Dubai since 2023 and moved there permanently from Los Angeles in April of 2025. By far the best decision I made for my quality of life, my business, and basic peace of mind. It’s not hard to find a sense of community as most expats are all in the same boat. They moved somewhere for an opportunity to have a better life. This is what the American dream was built on. Lots of people complain about the “lack of nature.” If you want to walk around in a forest barefoot after work, then it’s not for you. But the UAE has beautiful nature. You have the desert the sea the mountains and you have places like Ras Al Khaimah where you can go to the Al Wadi Desert. There are wildlife and nature reserves all over. Go drive out to the desert 15 minutes east of Dubai and stare into the stars. Most places, you’re 10-20 minutes from the beach. Oman, with many little oasis is a short drive / 30-40 minute flight away. You can go to Salalah and be in what’s essentially a rainforest, or Muscat which is what I call desert Norway. You can also literally rock up at the Mall of The Emirates and go Skiing indoors if you want. You can drive 45 minutes to Abu Dhabi and go surfing. Next, they say Dubai & the UAE has no soul. This is completely and utterly wrong. The entire soul of Dubai is PROGRESS and AMBITION. This was created out of NECESSITY as well as a vision. If you’ve ever spent the time and learned the history of Dubai, you’ll know that Dubai started as a small fishing village. They expanded trade when they were under British rule. They relied mostly on pearls, and when the Japanese developed a way to grow artificial pearls, their economy basically collapsed. They went through multiple economic collapses as Dubai is not an oil rich Emirate - Abu Dhabi is. Therefore they had to find creative ways to make money. They then expanded the economy to allow free trade and ended taxation and Dubai became a merchant hub. In 2008, Dubai was bailed out for $10B by Abu Dhabi during the market collapse and they named the Burj Khalifa in honor of that help. When your country survives multiple economic collapses (due to really, really great leadership) and you come out on top, you understand that the only way to play is to play to win. This is why Dubai is a city of opportunity for so many all around the world. It succeeded off of the backbone of trade, low taxes, and a business-first approach. When I lived in Los Angeles, there were crackheads and drug addicts outside of my penthouse when I would walk outside or go for a drive. I’d have to conceal carry a Glock 17 on me while I drove around in my cars “just in case.” In Dubai & the UAE, I have peace of mind that I didn’t have before. Depending on the lifestyle you want to live, you can live pretty cheap and normal ($5k/month) or you can live extravagantly. The world’s best restaurants are concentrated here. You’re a few hours from all the other best places in the word (Europe / some parts of Asia). You don’t have to worry about your safety. You are not penalized or looked down upon for wanting to be or BEING successful. And you don’t need to “prove anything” to anyone. It’s not about “taxes.” The arms of Uncle Sam are long. If you’re not American, you’re in a great position. But if you’re going to pay taxes to somewhere, why not pay them to a government that actually does what it says it’s going to do. Anyway, best decision I ever made.

The “move to Dubai to save taxes” conversation always makes me laugh. Yeah, the tax part is great, no argument there. But living there is a different story. I’ve spent a month there, and the climate sucks big time. The city feels fake, like everything is designed to look perfect rather than feel real. It’s hard to connect with people on a personal level. Everyone is in their own bubble, chasing something. It’s great for money, cause you stay sharp and competitive while you save a lot on taxes. But basing your life purely on money isn’t the way imo.
