@LOICentralPod Is a Duff return to Shelbourne out of the question? They’ve made substantial investment, and arguably have the second strongest squad in the league, but it’s not being reflected on the pitch.

@LOICentralPod No mailbag call? Anyway, is it time for Shels to talk to Duffer again? Despite major investment, they’re in a worse position than 12 months ago. I think he’d come back, if asked nicely.

Mate of mine paid 190€ for 2 tickets to Man United vs Leeds IN A FRIENDLY.... for that price, you could attend 9 league of ireland games and have a tenner left over to buy a Hotdog

@RoryM90 @chippie1974 Also the increased enthusiasm for Gaelic football after the rule changes and the end of Dublin dominance. Some GAA league games getting huge crowds.

First series of games over in the premier. Crowds 183k v 211k last season so a drop of 28k. 3 factors driving this, opening Bohs game down 11.5k. Cork v Dundalk on average down 1.4k a game and Galway, Waterford and Sligo all down a bit. Dublin clubs slightly up/down.

@Flynner2013 @carabini_10 In this context, West Brits are gobshites who dismiss Irish football but devote themselves to supporting British clubs.

@JohnDozy1 @carabini_10 What exactly do you think a West Brit is John? You've used the phrase twice now and instead of funny (I assume you were going for funny), you've just come across uneducated and I personally find it poor form when people make fun of retards on the Internet when it comes to ball

@brett_colin @WClarke1980 Colin, you’re missing the point. They wouldn’t leave if we had gradual progression available here. Like the Dane’s, Norwegians, Austrians, etc. Even Haaland stayed at Molde until 19. Our lads are out the door at the earliest possible moment. Then get stuck in youth football.

@JohnDozy1 @WClarke1980 A lot of our best players are now leaving for Arsenal, Brighton,Hoffenheim, Monaco, Porto though John. And on top of it, if you're a LOI fan, you know that weekend EPL spend is never going to be back in the LOI. Yet League rev is growing YOY from a growing, new fanbase.

It still amazes me how many people in this country - fail to realise that quality youth development provision and a thriving professional league are directly linked to sustained international success. There are no short cuts to success. End of.

Back to the club beat this weekend but hard to start a LOI preview without a few minutes on how World Cup pain affects everyone and should focus minds for the road ahead youtu.be/2i5P_reL7t4?si…

@brett_colin @WClarke1980 To really make a sustained breakthrough, and stop our best players leaving for England’s League One, our top clubs would need budgets of around €10 million annually. Which is around 3x current levels.

@brett_colin @WClarke1980 I think we’re at cross purposes here. My point is as long as most Irish soccer fans prefer to spend their money on British soccer, the LOI won’t reach the level required. We have come from low(er) base, but we’re still at a low base. We’re still behind Slovenia and Bulgaria.

@brett_colin @WClarke1980 While Irish fans pour their resources in to following British teams, we won’t have a strong enough domestic base to produce a good national team. Look at the countries of our size who are qualifying regularly. They all have top 20 leagues. We are 31st.

@JohnDozy1 @WClarke1980 I have read it again. Please explain why you can't have both & why the correlation between both. Accepting UK club fan interest essentially means not being able to have a good national team or having a good national team means not having high levels of UK club fan interest..

@JohnDozy1 @WClarke1980 How does Irish people prioritising UK club football help our national team? Plane loads of people at weekends going to the UK and/or bums on stools in pubs help our national teams, how?

@gcooney93 Or you could argue that Europe should abandon qualifiers and just use the Nation’s League to decide.

That Sweden can fail to win a single game in Q, get a playoff for topping a Nations League group of Slovakia, Estonia, and Azerbaijan, and then beat Ukraine and Poland - neither truly away from home - to qualify for the World Cup is a farce. The Q system is a mess

@LOICentralPod Ireland ‘fans’ can’t accept the contradiction between them following British soccer clubs and then expecting the national team to do well. The only way for Ireland to consistently compete again is if the LOI becomes a top 15 league. Thats requires support and money. Discuss?

🔸Reflections on Ireland's World Cup Playoff Elimination 1. Though people think otherwise, there's no room for moral sentiment, we FAILED. 2. We lost not due to individuals, but a series of collective failures, Win as a Team, Lose as a Team. 3. Coleman & Ogbene put in phenomenal shifts but the over reliance tells its own story. 4. The tactics worked to a point, but with each sub we became markedly weaker. 5. Pens are not a lottery but our Set Piece issue are far deeper contrary to our history. 6. Our core is strong Collins (24), Kelleher (27), O'Brien (24), Troy (24), Ferguson (21) , Ogbene (28), O'Shea (27) BUT TALENT GAPS EXIST. 7. May/June are CRUCIAL for integrating new talent, underage/domestic/etc. 8. Granny Rule "recruits" shouldn't be demonised but WELCOMED, kudos to Frank Devine and Mark O'Toole who do superb work in Talent ID. 9. For decades the FAI has been the defacto punching bag, but past mistakes can't be a life sentence of ridicule. 10. LOI? The "Problem Child" has now the "Golden Child" but total funding of €770K for 3 leagues is unworkable. 11. Though a talent gold mine the LOI is not at the level to provide the MNT, THATS THE REALITY. 12. Grassroots + LOI need to allign, to work together for the betterment of our talent. 13. We need stadia. The state of ours in 2026 is archaic and incompatible with the surge in demand, losing invaluable gate receipts. 14. Same goes for training infrastructure, park egos for cross association partnerships need pursuing & the recent news of the FAI talking with the GAA and IRFU is welcome but long overdue. 15. We are not a poor country, money is there for investment. 16. Football's potential is unmatched, 1.6 million watched our loss to Czechia 78% of our TV audience. 17. LOI TV is a great service, Virgin have been brilliant but another major TV deal is needed. 18. Both the MNT & WNT deserve support, but demonising those who support the former and not the latter is unproductive. 19. We do underage Irish sides exceptionally but I’d love a National Team curriculum implemented. 20. Branding, Marketing can be vamped further for our Senior Teams make the players stars to kids. #COYBIG 🇮🇪

@PottsyMcTevez @TheIrishKieran On the basis of what? All 3 of them regularly play European football and compete quite well on a normal day. I reckon you might wanna educate yourself before making big claims. Just because the names don't ring a bell to you doesn't mean the teams are shit. :)

12 of the 17 Irish players used against the Czech Republic play for clubs in a 2nd tier. For the Czechs, that number was zero. Ireland continue to be an outlier on the international front, with a player base in a single foreign nation + most in a 2nd tier.
Kieran@TheIrishKieran

And Ireland, as a footballing nation, need more players that strive to be their best - Instead of accepting 2nd tier mediocrity. (as Parrott has shown) That has nothing to do with the FAI or the flaws of the Irish development structures. Which leads to many ignoring the problem.
