The victim of the terrorist attack at Old Dominion has been identified as Lt. Col. Brandon Shah-- who was a Professor of Military Science and the leader of the university's ROTC program. He was a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Atlantic Resolve. His awards included two Bronze Stars, Senior Army Aviator Badge, Combat Action Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with Valor, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Joint Service Achievement Medal. RIP. 🙏

First, I would like to thank you for your service to this great country. However, due to men in skirts in our military I question a lot of things. I came across this. And this doesn't include DEI baloney. During the Global War on Terror in Iraq and Afghanistan, the U.S. military experienced significant "medal inflation," with Bronze Star Medals for meritorious service vastly outnumbering valor awards, shifting ratios from about 1:3 in Vietnam to 1:32–1:40 and skewing heavily toward senior officers as end-of-tour recognitions. Overall, over 150,000 Bronze Stars were awarded, with only 2–6% including the "V" device for heroism, prompting criticism that the medal was devalued and that enlisted troops, who faced greater combat risks, received disproportionately fewer high-level awards. Lt. Col. Brandon Shah received two Bronze Stars from his Iraq and Afghanistan deployments without the "V" device—indicating meritorious service—consistent with the broader trend for field-grade officers, though he did earn an Air Medal with "V" for valor and a Combat Action Badge for direct enemy contact.
