@xdadevelopers Most of the hardware is US tech. Most of the networking companies are US based. Only 2 FABS in Europe and only one capable of making microprocessors, and it is half owned by an American company. The US tech dependence will continue for some time.

@Murk441 We had these in the 70s for cap guns. They then replaced them with plastic versions which created far more waste, and were far more expensive.

@QuantumAlteredX They did not need to take food for such s short mission. NASA have a lot to learn about nutrition if they want to go to Mars.

If I ever come out after being locked in a spacecloset with no toilet looking this good after 10 days of going #1 and #2 in my pants locked in with 3 friends, surrounded by their farts and them going 1&2 in their pants, with constant diaper stench...all while trying to float sleep and bumping into their loaded diaper with my loaded diaper at night, no running water, weird dehydrated food, then going 30,000 mph in a fireball. I'd expect you'd know I'm lying.

@kimlbarger @PaulSchleifer @ABridgen The exposure is set for daytime. How many stars are in your photos taken the midday sun. The camera was a Nikon D5, exposure 1/1000s at ISO 400, 400mm lens.

It’s a remarkable coincidence that the Earth was exactly the same orientation to the moon with exactly the same cloud coverage when these two pictures were taken 68 years apart. Am I now a coincidence theorist ?

@brockpierson I used mine when I had a Thinkpad. It was invented because early trackpads and trackballs were rubbish. It is far superior. It is the best pointing device available for a laptop.

@eevblog The Nikon is more than good enough. A Hasselblad system with the equivalent lenses would have more mass, particularly with longer focal length lenses.

Question for photography/space nerds. I know the 20MP Nikon D5 is space rated and that's why it's on Artemis II. They also have a space rated 45MP Nikon Z9. But considering they took along iPhones and Gopro's, why not also take a more capable DSLR like a 100MP Hasselblad or Canon EOS R5 or Fujifilm GFX 100S II that can do 400MP with pixel shift?
Macroblock@sainimatic

Crazy to think that this was taken with a regular DSLR and is sitting on one of the astronauts' camera roll. On a normal memory card. Not some special exterior mounted NASA camera. They just pointed the lens out the window and snapped this. Makes it even more real somehow.

Donald Trump has been a national politician for a decade. Anyone still reacting to the guy’s negotiating tactics and hyperbole with this sort of hysteria ten years in should be disqualified from political commentary. If he nukes Tehran at 8pm, I’ll admit I’m the crazy one. When he doesn’t, this crew will admit nothing and find some other comment to be scandalized by.
Bo Winegard@EPoe187

Ok this is legitimately a threat to annihilate an entire people, an obvious and grotesque war crime. There is absolutely no defense of this and it should lead to immediate impeachment and removal.

I’m genuinely struggling to understand this. Ye is banned from the UK for saying offensive things. Meanwhile, a former ISIS terrorist, Ahmed al-Sharaa was shaking hands with Keir Starmer and King Charles III last week. One said mean things. The other chopped heads off. This does not make sense.

Britain doesn't own a single barrel of strategic oil. Not one. Every other serious economy in the world keeps state-owned crude in the ground for emergencies. We outsourced the job to private companies and told them to hold the legal minimum. We are the only G7 country without a sovereign strategic reserve. And in a few week's time, you might find out what that decision actually costs.

@LeeHurstComic Not needed for solar system colonisation. Long distance space travel can use a generation ship instead of hibernation. You have to start somewhere. Though SLS at 4 billion per launch is a typical @NASA white elephant.
