@OleTimeHardball Josh Gibson topped Ty Cobb's .366 career batting average. When putting together these lists, designate them as AL/NL records, not MLB records. MLB records have been updated (calling Ted Williams the MLB's last .400 hitter is also now incorrect).

@KyleNeddenriep @themarcszn I don’t understand. How can someone who didn’t qualify for the state meet get to run in it? Would the IHSAA done that with an athlete from Gary?

Looking at some colorized footage of the 1954 World Series, Game 1. In the first inning, the Indians had runners on 1st and 3rd with 2 out. Maglie goes into his windup while pitching to Wertz, and the runner on 1st (Avila) holds! That would never happen today, of course. Wertz triples home the Indians' first 2 runs.

Gym #111 tonight at the Hatchet House in Washington. Hauser (26-2) takes on Barr Reeve (26-1) for a trip to the state championship on the line in class 1A.
After doing a story on Barr Reeve a few weeks ago I needed to see what the hype was at Washington. Barr Reeve makes the short drive from Montgomery and Hauser is coming from Columbus.
I’ve go updates here ⬇️

The Summit Conference was the only league to have 3 sectional champions, and all 3 (Snider, Homestead and Luers) also won regionals. The Hoosier Heritage, Mid-Southern, Northeast 8, Southwestern Indiana and Wabash River all had 2 regional champs.

Last week's 17.7 average winning margin was the 4th highest margin ever in sectional play and the highest since 1918, when the margin was 18.4. Other years topping this year's margin were 1917 (20.4) and 1915 (18.6), the first year of sectionals. The last year of single-class sectionals, 1997, it was 13.3, although that was an anomaly; in 1996 it was 15.4.

In the class era, Gary 21st Century's 93.0 scoring average last week was the fifth highest in a sectional, trailing Bowman's 102.67 (in both 2010 and 2014), Blackhawk's 102.3 (2019) and Reitz's 94.3 (2015). Next high was Cathedral's 92.0 last week. 21st Century and Cathedral have the only two sectional scoring averages over 85 in the running-clock era.

I put out this list of teams snapping tournament losing streaks of 4 or more games after Wednesday's games, saying some teams could be added Friday. Well, Seymour snapped an 8-game string, Lowell 7, Sheridan 5 and even Carmel 4 Friday. Carmel's losing streak came on the heels of a 16-game winning streak. Carmel, and well as Blackhawk and Silver Creek, won state titles in 2019 and 2021 and also won a sectional in 2020 before that tournament was suspended by Covid, running up long winning streaks.
