Gym #111 tonight at the Hatchet House in Washington. Hauser (26-2) takes on Barr Reeve (26-1) for a trip to the state championship on the line in class 1A.
After doing a story on Barr Reeve a few weeks ago I needed to see what the hype was at Washington. Barr Reeve makes the short drive from Montgomery and Hauser is coming from Columbus.
I’ve go updates here ⬇️

In tournaments where teams played two games in one day, these are the records of first semifinal winners in night games:
All tournaments
Regionals 753-703 (.517)
Semistates 161-143 (.530)
State finals 28- 45 (.452)

The Summit Conference was the only league to have 3 sectional champions, and all 3 (Snider, Homestead and Luers) also won regionals. The Hoosier Heritage, Mid-Southern, Northeast 8, Southwestern Indiana and Wabash River all had 2 regional champs.

New Albany won its 19th regional. Delta and Parke Heritage won their 4th straight. Decatur Central, New Haven, Northridge and Tri-County all won their first. North Vermillion won its first since 1969 and Triton Central its first since 1989.

Last week's 17.7 average winning margin was the 4th highest margin ever in sectional play and the highest since 1918, when the margin was 18.4. Other years topping this year's margin were 1917 (20.4) and 1915 (18.6), the first year of sectionals. The last year of single-class sectionals, 1997, it was 13.3, although that was an anomaly; in 1996 it was 15.4.
English

In the class era, Gary 21st Century's 93.0 scoring average last week was the fifth highest in a sectional, trailing Bowman's 102.67 (in both 2010 and 2014), Blackhawk's 102.3 (2019) and Reitz's 94.3 (2015). Next high was Cathedral's 92.0 last week. 21st Century and Cathedral have the only two sectional scoring averages over 85 in the running-clock era.

I put out this list of teams snapping tournament losing streaks of 4 or more games after Wednesday's games, saying some teams could be added Friday. Well, Seymour snapped an 8-game string, Lowell 7, Sheridan 5 and even Carmel 4 Friday. Carmel's losing streak came on the heels of a 16-game winning streak. Carmel, and well as Blackhawk and Silver Creek, won state titles in 2019 and 2021 and also won a sectional in 2020 before that tournament was suspended by Covid, running up long winning streaks.

I have regular-season scores back only to 1994. However, I found 6 turnarounds of 50 or more points and 16 of 46 or more points. In 1999, Ben Davis lost to Center Grove 70-40 during the season and then won 73-44 in the tournament, a 59-point turnaround.

@JohnRHarrell John, what is the biggest avenger point difference in tournament history?? I gotta think Forest Park 50pts and Northeast Dubois 46pts both last night rank towards the top in state history.
English

@indiananathan It was the lowest scoring sectional championship game in the class era. It was the lowest-scoring sectional final since 1961, when Haubstadt beat Fort Branch, 14-12, in 3 overtimes at Princeton. But there were 99 lower-scoring sectional finals back in the 1910s, '20s, '30s, etc.
English

. @JohnRHarrell - was last nights 18-13 final score the lowest ever for a sectional championship game?
English

@officialjoew @RomeovilleKid No. One of the half-dozen schools in each sectional is the host for that sectional.
English

@RomeovilleKid @JohnRHarrell Clearly Carmel vs Fishers but I’m curious, why are they playing at Noblesville? Do they play sectionals at neutral site?
English

Final: Carmel 50, Fishers 49 l @JohnRHarrell
DOWN GOES NO. 1!!!!!!! ONE OF THE BEST GAMES I’VE EVER SEEN!!!!!!!!
English

Carmel is now my 4A favorite at 20.91%, ahead of Pike's 20.91. Silver Creek remains the 3A leader at 45.48, but Cathedral is lurking at 22.32. Oak Hill still leads 2A with 25.06, but 21st Century is coming on strong at 20.37. And Hauser is still atop 1A with 30.78, just ahead of Barr-Reeve's 23.15.
