I really hope the habs can sign T.J Hughes when his season is done. He’d be a great replacement for Phil Danault in a year when his contract is up #GoHabsGo

@MitchBannon I would send Little down and call up someone who can throw 2+ innings .Give Little 10 days or so to figure his stuff out

Eric Lauer will now start Sunday for the #BlueJays. There’s a sickness going around the clubhouse and he’s caught it, so they’re giving him an extra day. TBD (likely a bullpen game or called-up starter) tomorrow vs White Sox

@NicLeclerc @MitchyGallo Caufield is the Player of the Year no doubt. Suzuki does more than just score goals. Maybe I overrated Dobes season for what he's doing lately and should be lower on the list but I put Suzuki and Hutson over Caufield 100%.

@MitchyGallo Same with Hutson. If you take him off the team obviously the Habs are not as good probably fighting for a WC spot but they can manage without him.

Here are my three takeaways from the Montreal Canadiens’ 3-2 win over the New York Rangers, brought to you by Snap Bar Sportif in Rigaud. 1- Newhook having a career year It’s unfortunate that Alex Newhook suffered the injury that cost him a large portion of the season, because he’s been terrific both before and after. Maybe people would view him differently if he had played a full year, more than just a third-line player who can fill in on the top six in spurts. Newhook might still set a career high in goals despite missing nearly half the season. Yes, he’s benefited from playing alongside Ivan Demidov, but he’s made the most of that opportunity and it’s clearly working. It wasn’t long ago that the Canadiens were looking to young players who hadn’t blossomed to help speed up the rebuild, and it looks like, in doing that, they hit a home run and found a gem in Newhook. 2- Penalty kill with another perfect night The penalty kill has been a point of concern for Montreal all season and needed to improve heading into the playoffs. To their credit, the Canadiens have done a good job fixing issues on the fly this year, whether it was protecting leads, slow starts, or defensive zone coverage. Well, the PK shut down the New York Rangers tonight. And while the Rangers aren’t a great team overall, they are dangerous on the power play. Montreal also held Tampa Bay to 0-for-4 on Tuesday and blanked Nashville on special teams over the weekend. Another box is starting to get checked as they approach the postseason. 3- Jacob Fowler’s rebound Martin St. Louis made the right call again with his goaltenders, something he’s handled well all season. Fowler’s toughest outing came back in early December, when he dropped a 5-4 shootout game to the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. So what do you do? You give him a chance to respond against that same team, and he delivered. Much like his win over Nashville, he wasn’t overly tested, but he made a couple of key saves, including a point-blank right pad stop on Alexis Lafrenière in the second period. Looking ahead, the Canadiens are in a great position with two goalies performing well while still on inexpensive deals. That kind of flexibility can be a huge advantage. @tsn690

Delmar Post Game Show! Habs beat the Rangers 3-2... - Did you want the win to be more convincing? - Who's a more clutch goal scorer than Caufield right now? 514-790-1690, *11690

@igriptheklar Also if it's a important game he might get some shifts on the 2nd line taking Newhook spot and some PP2 time

@igriptheklar It depends on where the Habs are in the standings. If he signs with the Habs I think he only plays the last game of the year.If that game doesn't mean anything I think he plays on the 2nd line.If that is still a important game he'll probably plays lower in the lineup

@midwayphil @Bedards_Burner @YoungHart91 He's not wrong. The Habs a further in their rebuild even if they started at the same time as the Hawks. The Habs are a playoff team while the Hawks are still a lottery team. It's going to take the Hawks a couple of more years to get where the Habs are now

@GrumpaDotCA I would give Fowler tomorrow game or the Saturday game and maybe the game against Fla because you want Dobes well rested for the rematch V TB.If the Habs clinch a spot and the points don't matter I would give Monty 1 of the last 2 games

@the_habitant Goalies can be unpredictable .As you see with Montembeault a goalie and look good 1 year and bad the other. By 2028 1 of Dobes or Fowler much likely be gone expansion or not

The main reason Engstrom was recalled instead of Reinbacher, in my opinion, is because the club doesn't want Reinbacher sitting in the stands watching games. He's done enough of that over the past two years. He's the prized prospect - he needs to play. Engstrom isn't playing.
