I don't know of any other dive bar with this kind of history and ties to a major U.S. city and a professional sports team as the Billy Goat. A must visit: Sam Sianis, ‘Cheezborger’-Flipping Owner of Chicago’s Billy Goat Tavern, Dies at 91 nytimes.com/2026/05/20/din… via @NYTimes

@ShomariFigures will be running for re-election to the 2nd congressional district on Aug. 11. It could set up a Figures-Marques matchup in November, though Marques has GOP challenges. Figures is from Mobile, but federal residency laws allow him to run in #AL2. #alpolitics

What the St Louis Cardinals are doing this season is the greatest “rebuild” in the history of sports No way this roster should be winning this much and we just keep grinding it out St Louis better believe bc this team is making noise in October

Turnout from last night - while Alabama is a red state, it may be mirroring the national trends. Red counties (Baldwin, Winston, Cullman, Shelby, etc.) had turnouts trailing 2022 primary. Montgomery and Jefferson saw bump ups. Almost all Black Belt counties above state trend.

@ChairmanWahl, who tangled with Fairhope over library books, did well tonight in Baldwin County. He got 15,064 votes or 48.12%, much higher than his statewide average. He also did well in Mobile Co., receiving 49.9% of the vote. Both percentages higher than Limestone, his home.

@jeff_poor Good grief. Even if the race wasn't invalidated, Carl didn't get the 50-plus to avoid the runoff. Maybe we'll have an invalidated runoff to follow the invalidated primary?

Alabama Values PAC's negative campaigning worked, although lawsuits seem to be forthcoming. But three longtime incumbents the PAC opposed via glossy mailers -- Phillip Pettus, Matt Simpson and Senator Greg Albritton -- were all defeated today in GOP primaries. #alpolitics

@dpreston2020 The governor and SOS say the results will be voided. So you can only go with what is being planned. A special election is Aug. 11.

@JohnSharp99 Here's the million dollar question. What if the court leaves the court drawn districts in place on Friday? Do the results count then? What about all the voters that did not vote in Congressional races today, do they get a chance to revote?

The AL1 GOP race is on the ballot. Yes. And yes, Senator Britt endorsed Rhett Marques. But the contest does not count, per a special election that Governor Ivey called and in which Marques is running in on Aug. 11. He's also announced plans to run in AL2, not AL1.

This is a correct assessment. It could also drive a bump in turnout. Four years ago, primary turnout was only 23 percent. That was with a crowded governor’s race on the Republican side, which Gov. Kay Ivey easily won.
Will Ainsworth@willainsworthAL

Tomorrow’s results are going to be interesting aside from the governor’s race.  I don’t recall having so many undecided voters calling or texting me about all of the statewide races and asking me who they should support. In a political atmosphere like this, anything can happen…
