@catpoopburglar @KimAffirms @HeerJeet You make an awful lot of big claims with no basis. And conveniently ignore the literacy rates, access to education and standing of living dropping pretty much everywhere the US intervenes.

@JohnThorGDF @KimAffirms @HeerJeet for almost all across the spectrum global poverty has decreased the most ever, wars less common, diseases eradicated—all of this is thanks to American hegemony

@JohnThorGDF @KimAffirms @HeerJeet the US has been the world hegemon since 1945 and those have also been the best years in human history—with the least atrocities—that’s not a coincidence

@JohnThorGDF @HeerJeet I will, and proudly too. The US has made many mistakes, but the peaceful international order and free international trade it has created as uplifted far more people.

@catpoopburglar @KimAffirms @HeerJeet As a PhD historian, I can confidently say there is no such thing as perfect times in history where no atrocities are occurring. Now is not better than the past in that respect. But the US has been committing atrocities left right and centre for as long as it has existed

@JohnThorGDF @HeerJeet the standard of living has risen massively under the US led world order, the only time that has ever happened if you are a country that depends on international trade, as almost all small countries do, you can thank the US for creating the peaceful world order that allows it

@catpoopburglar @HeerJeet Better than the US? They are famously not as prone to direct interference so kind of yeah. The US have been toppling regimes. Murdering democratically elected leaders and destroying standards of living globally for decades. The are an awful hegemon. Hard to be worse.

@booklady2002 @RichardHanania Not following. The student has a right to express her opinion. Read the instructions and rubric. It was to be a personal reflection, not an argumentative essay.

@UofOklahoma Wait, the university is bowing down to a student who failed to engage with the course materials? No wonder Americans are idiots.

@TurningPointOU Anyone who thinks this should recieve a passing mark is clearly too stupid to go to university. A zero, did not engage with the discipline in any way shape or form seems entirely fair.

For a psychology course at the University Oklahoma, Samantha Fulnecky was asked to write a 650-word essay reacting to an article about how people are perceived based on societal expectations of gender. In her essay, Fulnecky argued that traditional gender roles should not be considered stereotypes. She cited the Bible to support her stance that eliminating gender in society would be "detrimental" because that would put people "farther from God's original plan for humans." She received zero points out of 25 on the essay. Transgender professor, Mel Curtis, said Ms. Fulnecky, failed to use empirical evidence/and called parts of her essay offensive. "To call an entire group of people 'demonic' is highly offensive, especially a minoritized population," the instructor wrote in the online grading platform. Fulnecky says she followed the assignment guidelines and should not be penalized for her religious viewpoints. OU officials point to the formal grade-appeal process as the student awaits a decision. We at Turning Point OU stand with Samantha. We should not be letting mentally ill professors around students. Clearly this professor lacks the intellectual maturity to set her own bias aside and take grading seriously. Professors like this are the very reason conservatives can't voice their beliefs in the classroom. Kuddos to Samantha for leading by example and standing up for what she believes in. @UofOklahoma , do better! #universityofoklahoma #trans #woke @ou_president @uofoklahoma @TPUSA @GovStitt @theoudaily @ounightly @SenadorJett @senmullin

There has been a lot of talk about BBC bias today. Its a good moment to remember the BBC Gaza Report @cfmmuk by the Centre for Media Monitoring, just to remind ourselves of the scandalous bias against Palestine @BBCNews in the face of the Gaza Genocide share.google/rzQVhvigAoqQ3L…

I'm getting a lot of questions about this (false) claim, so let's do a wonky deep dive on how willfully wrong @Israel is on this. Right off the top: this is the EXACT SAME THRESHOLD that was used in the Sudan famine declaration last year. Not any lowering of the bar for Gaza.
Israel ישראל@Israel

In other countries, the IPC declares famine at 30% malnutrition. In Gaza only, the UN-backed IPC lowered the bar to 15% and it is based on unreliable data. They didn’t find famine - so they forged one.

The demands for Ardern, Hipkins, Robertson, and Verrall, to be put before a kangaroo court of the nations cookers to be interrogated are absurd. Why would we persecute the people who saved an estimated 20k lives and try and punish them. The lack of gratitude and this is nothing more than a political stunt. Why should they be questioned outside the boundaries of the Royal Commision. Those critics just want a public execution, they couldn’t care less about what the Royal Commision of inquiry reports.
