@CosmicSkeptic @G_S_Bhogal Your reasons for “belief“ are irrelevant. If gods of any kind could influence the natural world, science would “know” it. No individual “belief” can trump human “knowledge”. I can’t believe in something you know not to be true. The answer is in physics, not philosophy.

Suppose my reason for not believing in God is the problem of evil. What’s that got to do with a Christian’s reason for believing Trinity vs Tawhid? Or suppose I just think there’s no evidence for God. Someone else believes there’s good evidence for God (say, fine-tuning) but rejects trinitarianism for its lack of scriptural evidence. If I said “I don’t believe in God just how you don’t believe in the triune God” I wouldn’t be speaking correctly.

I’m getting a lot of hate for this reel. What do you think? (P.S.: if you say “but we have evidence for dads I believe you have missed the point.)

@CosmicSkeptic Is it hate? Or ridicule for an obviously ridiculous analogy? Dads clearly exist. The biblical god is one of thousands of theorized, MECE deities. To claim they’re all as similar as human dads from different countries is intellectually lazy, if not dishonest. Do better.

@MollyJongFast @jaketapper Hardly. 1% of the estimated 630k abortions in 2019 is 6,000+ women. Do your homework, cite the real numbers and then let them defend.

@MikeClayNFL “Resting” your best players to ensure they’re healthy for the playoffs is 1000% different than benching your best players to ensure you get a higher draft pick.

@ProfBrianCox Well done Roger Penrose, what a family he comes from! I have no maths or science training and I found ENM very hard going but also extremely thought-provoking and inspiring.

Congratulations to Roger Penrose on his share in the Nobel Prize for Physics for his work on Black Holes. He's also a terrific author - The Emperors New Mind is one of the books I loved when I was starting out in physics, including a superb intro to quantum mechanics.

@michaelshermer Why very probably not? Given how far we’ve come in 250k yrs, the # of possible intelligent civilizations, and the 13.8b yrs they’ve had to advance why’s it so hard to imagine someone somewhere has a map of every intelligent civilization and the means to send probes to each one?

Oh dear—Someone's unhappy about my UFO skepticism. Again—2 separate questions: Are ETs out there? (Probably but we don't know.) Have ETs come here? (Very probably not). I'm prepared to adjust my priors if there's new evidence. Until then, skepticism is the correct default setting

@elonmusk any way you could put a camera on a boat instead of the drone ship? My idiot friends cry conspiracy every time the feed cuts out and we miss the landing. Thanks!
