Incredibly disappointing to see this. It is galactically inappropriate for the President of Ireland to act as a patron to Belong To, a very well funded lobby group for the medicalisation of children’s identities. We know these procedures cause harm. Children can’t consent to the loss of sexual functioning and infertility because they don’t understand the consequences of this. This is an unfolding medical scandal. Mo náire thú, a Uachtaráin

@AndyMitten @StrettyDave Anybody who has had serious back problems or back surgery will tell you how difficult a problem it is to overcome and even after surgery there are no guarantees, even now after "successful" surgery.

@ronaldobrownn_ It's very hard to predict with back surgery. This really is one injury where you hope he comes back fit at all, even if it takes until next March, April or May.

@shankers73 @AndyMitten You know nothing about back injuries or back surgery, your comment is completely ignorant of the man's longterm health. I've had back surgery and suffered chronic back pain and your ignorance is infuriating.

Matthijs de Ligt has undergone successful surgery for a back injury. Expected to return in early stages of '26-27. Long time out, that. He was doing very well before the injury.

@ManUtd @mdeligt_04 To everyone saying why did they wait 6 months.Nobody goes for back surgery after a week. They will have tried to solve the issue without surgery because having surgery on your back is very risky. Hopefully it is successful for him and he will play for United again. Get well soon

I have never felt so ashamed to be Australian. I've never been so disgusted in the ignorance and arrogance of our law makers. In Australia, you must allow him into women's spaces, sports and services. If you don't, Australian law says you are 'discriminating' against him. Australia is a mess in so many ways. Female-only spaces do not exist. Men with a gender identity are there too Julia Gillard - Australia's first female Prime Minister - did this. An utter disgrace. The Greens, Labor and Sue Hickey brought it to Tasmania. Repulsive.

@spectator This is why Rice jumped ship from Ireland after playing 3 senior Internationals, so he could get all this adulation from the English media. If had stayed playing with Ireland he would be just another very good footballer.

As all but the most tribal fruitcases would agree, Arsenal’s Declan Rice is an island of decency in the rather foetid river that is modern football. But even he seemed to be performing the Heimlich manoeuvre on a West Ham forward in the grapple-fest that was the epic 95th-minute corner last weekend. Like everyone else, Rice joined the all-in wrestling, bullying, grabbing, judo throw-downs and fouling that have disfigured so many of the corners we have seen this season and made these moments such a dreadful spectacle. As at an orgy, it is hard to see who is doing what to whom. ✍️ Roger Alton Article | spectator.com/article/declan…
