Good afternoon. On Thursday, May 21, 2026, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office issued charges against suspect Daion Heartfield, 25 years of age, of the 1800 block of Exuma Drive in St. Louis, Missouri 63136, for Murder 1st Degree, three counts of Armed Criminal Action, and two counts of Assault 1st Degree or Attempt - Serious Physical Injury or Special Victim. Heartfield is being held without bond. On Thursday, May 21, 2026, the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney's Office issued charges against suspect Todd Weems, 32 years of age, of the 4200 block of Chippewa Street in St. Louis, Missouri 63116, for Murder 1st Degree, three counts of Armed Criminal Action, and two counts of Assault 1st Degree or Attempt – Serious Physical Injury or Special Victim. Weems is being held without bond. Please note, charges are merely an accusation, and Defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law. The probable cause statements for both Heartfield and Weems read: On April 19, 2026, the victim R.M. was shot multiple times as he was closing his food truck in St. Louis County. R.M. died as a result of his wounds. Eyewitnesses to the event stated a black Toyota Corolla, occupied by 3 African American males, dressed all in black, with masks, drove past the victim. At that point in time, the rear passenger exited the vehicle and shot at the victim with an assault rifle. Victim #1 was shot in the leg. Victim #2. was shot multiple times. The vehicle was caught on camera leaving the scene. Additional video places the vehicle heading towards Illinois. Shortly after the shooting, the Illinois police located the vehicle on fire. Three males, dressed in similar attire, are on camera leaving the scene of the burning vehicle. Preliminary NIBIN analysis indicates the shell casings at the scene of the murder are consistent with casings found near Defendant Weem's residence, although this is subject to final analysis by the laboratory. Both defendants, Weems and Heartfield identify themselves from video taken shortly before the shooting at a gas station 5 minutes away from the scene where they are purchasing gasoline. Furthermore, both defendants identify themselves in video captured in close proximity to the burning Corolla. Approximately 22 minutes between the shooting of the victim and burning vehicle being discovered. St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons detectives are handling this investigation.
