아주 어릴 때 금은버전을 하던 나는 진행 중 박치기로 나무를 때리면 포켓몬이 나온다는 정보를 보고 아무 생각 없이 너도밤나무 숲에서 박치기를 했고 거기서 분홍색 음영의 날개를 가진 버터플이 나왔다. 그 당시 애니의 영향으로 나는 이게 암컷이라 그런건줄 알고 미련없이 냅다 죽였다. 나 땐 남자가 여자와 관련된 무언가를 가까이 하면 놀림을 받았기 때문에 암컷 포켓몬을 가지고 있는것 또한 민감한 사항이기 때문이었다. 아무튼 세월이 흘러 안 그래도 박치기로 버터플이 나왈 확률이 5%밖에 안되는데 그 안에서 이로치가 나온걸 알고 버터플만 보면 그때가 떠오른다. 사람은 무릇 자신에게 기회가 오지 않아 억울해 하는 경향이 있지만, 돌이켜보면 기회가 온 줄도 모르고 스스로 걷어차는 경우가 많다. 자신에게 온 것이 행운이고 기회인 줄 알려면 더 많이 알고 더 많이 학습하며 기회를 준비하는 사람이 되어야 한다는 걸 잊지 말자. 이로치 버터플은 그런 교훈을 주었지만, 나는 그걸 자주 잊어서 큰일이다.
