@TridentTrue I know I’m wrong. But if feels like having a singular philosophy of controlling the zone and first pitch strikes makes it easier on hitters. Over a season it works out because you’re not walking guys. But good teams and good hitters take advantage of the predictability

The regression we’ve seen in the first month+ from some of the starters have been brutal
Logan hasn’t been great, need him to heat up.
Callaghan Bluechel@CalBluechel
Eight of nine batted balls against Gilbert so far have been 95+ off the bat, six of nine have been 100+

@RoofTopMariner Everyone knows boos from fans help pitchers not give up home runs and they help players hit.
English

@Gravel_sense I’ve been a huge critic of JP. Wish we had a better option. But if Colt is striking out at a 30% clip in AAA it’s no guarantee he’ll be a net positive. Even if his D is superior
English

@MarineLayerPod It’s weird to me that this is being framed as a new thing? He’s obviously a plus defender, but he’s always had an unusual amount of weird routes, bobbles or misplays, and miscommunications. More so than previous M’s CF’s like Griff, Cammy, Guiti. That’s always been Julio no?

Lose a series to one of the worst teams and after that the best team comes to town, could be a disaster week for #Mariners
English

@Gravel_sense No one said you can’t be upset. Just don’t understand M’s fans throwing tantrums and giving up after bad plays.
English

@JollyWoyner dawg, Randy deciding to end an inning is absolutely something worth being upset about. I’ve genuinely never seen someone do that in my entire life. I can’t just brush that off as “mistakes happen, it’s whatever”
English

@DKramer_ Why do you not yank him from the game after that? Light a fire under these guy's.

@RefuseToLosePod @sportsnow41 Randy “Left”. Randy didn’t play everyday. Randy didn’t have the coolness factor. He was outside of the group of Edgar Junior Buhner ARod. Those felt like digs to me. Perhaps not your intention but that’s what I was responding to.
English

@JollyWoyner @sportsnow41 Not even close to focusing on perceived negatives.
Griffey was cooler to me as a 7 year old. Literally all I meant.
English

Randy Johnson was a pitcher who didn't play every day.
He didn't have the personality of Jr., Edgar or Jay Buhner.
He was the first M's star to leave.
I'm sure I'm not the only person who didn't gravitate toward him being their favorite player as a kid.
But nearly 30 years later? He deserves this day, and I'm glad he's getting it. There are no Mariners without him.

@sportsnow41 @RefuseToLosePod Agreed. But the original post seemed to ignore the flaws of the other stars (Griffey) while focusing on the perceived negative’s of a different star (Randy). Just providing context
English

@sportsnow41 @RefuseToLosePod I don’t know about that. Even if true on some level, we all forget how Griffey treated media (not well) and absolutely screwed the M’s by forcing a trade and listing one team he’d accept a trade to. Randy didn’t ask to be traded. M’s got cheap.
English

@JollyWoyner @RefuseToLosePod He also absolutely dogged it his final few months here
I get his anger and I am far from a front office defender, but that August switch when he got to Houston pissed me off to no end
He’s a complicated guy. But a warrior in ‘95 and deserves his due
English

@RefuseToLosePod I suppose. It sounds a bit like “despite Randy’s shortcomings I think we should give him his due today”. Lol. To me he’s Edgar. He’s Junior. Same importance. Same coolness. But if you’re 5-7 yrs old it’s probably less about actual baseball and more about image and style.
English

I think the age difference is probably key. I think playing every day is important for recognize-ability at that age, and while Johnson was undoubtedly cool, I think Jr. and A-Rod had more cool to younger people.
It's an interesting conversation based on age. We land in the same spot now and that's most important.
English

@RefuseToLosePod Gotcha. To people my age (48) he wasn’t separate from that group at all. Insane dominance. Intimidating character. Super animated on the mound. Legendary nickname. As key to their success as anyone.
English

I'm not sure of your age, and I'm speaking for myself, with the assumption that others in my age bracket (36) feel similarly.
I grew up on Jr.'s personality and cool factor. I admired Edgar and Jay because they were *almost* career Mariners, and then I gravitated toward A-Rod.
I didn't appreciate Randy Johnson as much until I got older.
That's all.
English

@FAmmiranteTFJ So you’re saying if a player isn’t good it’s a bad pick? Genius
English

@kensnoopyjr People were always discover Seattle sports teams and players late but at this point he’s had a nice month. I wouldn’t expect the national media to notice.
