STEP 5 A whole school tracker to monitor and review interventions and their success. We have a strategic inclusion briefing every Friday morning to discuss individual / groups of students. /5

***INCLUSION*** Inclusion isn’t just one room or in addition to our provision it is woven into our school tapestry. Quality first teaching is at the heart of this so every student feels empowered to thrive. Good teaching for students with SEND is good teaching for all and that additional interventions cannot be at the detriment of access to consistent good quality everyday teaching. What are we doing to build a fully inclusive culture? /1

@m_chiles Positive framing always. Say what you want not what you don't want. Reduces cognitive load and tells them what they need to do not what they shouldn't be doing. If it's a rule, then sanction. "Tom we don't wear our coats in the building, that's a X"

It’s been interesting seeing the posts and threads on behaviour. We use the phrase - ‘Connect before you correct’ - A potential scenario in high schools is a student wearing a coat inside when the rule is no outdoor coats. “Tom, are you okay?” “Yes, sir. Why?” “You have your coat on inside the building when the rule is no outdoor coats” “I couldn’t be bothered to carry it” How would you deal with this in your school? 👀⬇️

Banning mobile phones in Dutch secondary schools has positive impact: ➡️ 75 % observe better concentration ➡️ 59 % note a more positive social atmosphere ➡️ 28 % see enhanced academic performance. ➡️ special educational settings saw benefits too Primary schools, which already had low phone use, reported modest benefits, 23 % noticed improved pupil wellbeing and classroom climate, with minimal enforcement issues However, nearly half cite increased workload for policy enforcement, and some report rises in disruptive behaviour. open.overheid.nl/documenten/54c…

ISYS gave a high ratio of engagement and reinforced the culture in the room. T&T allowed for the reinforcing of key terminology and then rehearsing again and again with key language drilled in. Definitely be embedding this process in my practice.

Today I used 'I say you say' with the key word "travelling" (in 🏀), followed by explaining the definition, Turn and Talk to get students to rehearse definition, feedback from sample, reintroduce key words "flow" and "more than two steps", rehearse again

As a SENDCO, you need to know what is going on in class. You need to make sure students are receiving quality-first teaching. You need to be able to diagnose where this isn’t happening so you can support teachers to develop their practice. sendmatters.co.uk/2021/11/04/see…
