If you’ve seen dump trucks full of snow traveling down city streets, the former Aerovox site is one of the dumping sites they might be heading.

Feb. 28 Update:To allow residents access to the city’s main business districts, the City is lifting the parking ban (1) on Acushnet Ave north of Coggeshall St, and (2) Downtown east of County St. The parking ban remains in place for the remainder of the city until further notice.

During a major snow storm, the city’s mechanics work long hours to repair plow trucks. Like a NASCAR pit crew, they get the vehicles back on the road in a hurry. I’m grateful for their unwavering dedication.

At the height of yesterday’s storm, our crews focused on main streets because it was essential to keep them open. The work from here is to dig out the side streets. We’ll have city crews and contractors at work around the clock, like this front end loader on Belleville Rd.

According to the @NWS, 37 inches of snow fell in the center of #NewBedford today, making this storm by far the largest on record. Our crews are working around the clock, along with dozens of contractors, to get the city back in business as soon as possible.

The latest on the storm in New Bedford: a lot of work has been done, and much is left to do. Please stay off the roads so that we can clear the way for emergency vehicles. Many thanks to our city employees who have been working around the clock.

Update on storm efforts: To augment the city plows and contractors, we’ve asked MassDot and Army National Guard for front end loaders and heavy duty dump trucks. We have a few more hours of snow, but the removal work will last days. We’ll be at it until it’s done.

The second graders at the Abraham Lincoln Elementary School today gave me a master class in “What Mayors Do,” just as the sign says. I soaked it all up. Many thanks to them and their teachers on a delightful visit.

It’s still cold, the snow from last week hasn’t melted much, and crews are hard at work carting it away.

The last of @VineyardWindUS’s 62 turbines is now heading out from the Port of #NewBedford to be installed. Many thanks to everyone in the port who have made the marshaling of this historic project a success.

Mr. Reliable, Joe Rua, owner of Rua’s Pizza, is preparing 40 pizzas in the middle of a blizzard for the plow drivers and other city employees working the storm today.
