Nothing to see here… just report the numbers we claim. But don’t ask how much we paid Tripp Umbach to say we are valuable…. Can’t have that.

It took nearly 3 weeks and UW-Madison claims that its contract with Tripp Umbach to produce an “economic impact” report is a draft document and that it has zero records of payment to the firm either. Transparency at its finest.

I asked for a pretty simple record last week, the contract with Tripp Umbach to show was the Univ. of Wisconsin paid the company to come up with this "report" on "economic impact." We'll see how long that basic request takes.... budget.wisc.edu/wp-content/upl…

@JNReports So they put together a $3.1B tax capture at the site to grab most of the tax money at the stadium to pay off the bonds on the additional $1.26B in public funds and future stadium expenses. They claimed the prior lease document required the city to pay for a $1B+ renovation if not

@JNReports So: 1. The state had federal COVID money excess that led to the $500M (and led Grizzlies to ask too). And 2. Former Mayor Cooper brokered a deal before exiting and then part of the stadium opposition won the next race. Cooper had nothing to lose once he decided to leave.

People with degrees have repeatedly conducted peer-reviewed studies on this and found that the tourism/growth arguments don’t hold up and the $500M lump sum and $3.1B tax capture for the stadium cost the public far more than the benefit.
Gov. Bill Lee@GovBillLee

Tennessee is proud to host the 2030 Super Bowl in Music City. 🏈 Super Bowl LXIV will drive tourism and fuel economic growth for communities across our state, and we look forward to welcoming @NFL football fans to Tennessee.

@stevebrubaker Certainly. I am sure it will be a lot of fun and a great stadium that the Titans will make a lot of money on. … Pretending like it was a good idea to spend all the taxpayer money on it because a Super Bowl is coming is the issue. Because that part isn’t real.

@JonStyf You walk out of that new stadium and walk across a footbridge and you are on Broadway. Really nice set up for super bowl patrons. Will the stadium pay for itself? Hell no, but all games will flood out onto Broadway for years to come.

So, the narrative that Tennessee politicians got this right by forking over billions because the Super Bowl is coming and states that won’t immediately do the same are getting it wrong is …. interesting.

Then, after all those public funds went to the new Titans stadium, the fans who paid for the stadium have been priced out of the new stadium through PSLs thecentersquare.com/tennessee/arti…

A reminder as Nashville is reportedly getting the 2030 Super Bowl: “Super Bowl impact reports often have large numbers before the event, but the real numbers are closer to $30 million to $130 million of added economic activity.” thecentersquare.com/tennessee/arti…

@JNReports I don't believe that for a second. If they wanted to move to Indiana, they would have already decided that.

@JonStyf The bears and the state kicked the tires on this for years! Now the NFL wants them to make a decision and it would appear Indiana is the one they’ll take.

The proposed deal fails in the Senate, 15-18. All Democrats opposed, three Republicans opposed.

Also, I was today years old when I learned Miz missed a JUCO season by landing weird and requiring meniscus surgery. Excellent story on that time at the same JUCO Aaron Ashby attended here: nytimes.com/athletic/72745…
